  • Hot???

I have been meaning to ask this question for a while...

For the last few months, my husband has repeatedly told me about my body being really (physically ) HOT at night when I am asleep. In answer to the obvious question, NO it is not a hot flash because I have experienced those in the past and they are always accompanied by heavy duty sweating. I did wake up a couple of nights ago in the middle of the night due to a thunderstorm and my legs especially felt REALLY hot but I did not feel bad otherwise.

I like to think that this is my body burning fat due to the change in my WOE and am just curious if anyone else has noticed this. Maybe a metabolism thing or something

      Re: Hot???

I'm curious too! I am always cold, but as my husband says, as soon as I lay down I get to fifty-hundred-bagillion degrees. Fan is a must.

There's a very good explanation by Dr. Michael Eades here...

        http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/k...-c57bl6-mouse/

It's a long read but here're the cliff notes.

        1. When you eat carbs, your body secretes insulin. The job of insulin is to store excess calories in your fat cell and to hold on to that stored energy.

        2. When you go on Atkin's, the lack of carbs suppresses insulin production and induces the release of glucagon. Glucagon causes the energy in your fat cells to be released to be used by your body.

        3. Since all that released energy, as well as any excess calories you may have eaten, will be difficult to store because of low insulin, your body has to do something with all that energy. One way is you feel an energy rush because you need to burn off all that excess energy. Another is increased body temperature.

One thing that Dr. Eades has observed is that anyone on a low-carb diet will have a difficult time gaining weight by eating excess calories. Obviously, they won't lose weight, but they won't gain either if they overeat. However, it is possible to gain weight on a low carb diet by eating too much but it's quite difficult to do.
