    Re: Sf Jello

SF Jell-O is sweetened with aspartame and a no-no for most people. Some people can get away with eating it sparingly and some people it stalls them.

Now, the Sugar-Free Cool Whip is not allowed. The main ingredient is corn syrup and it has more carbs and sugars than the regular Cool Whip. There is nothing in this stuff that is healthy. Whip up some heavy whipping cream and sweeten it with Splenda for a real taste treat--which is legal.

    Sunny!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

You might put a little bit of vanilla flavoring, but I usually just put some cream in a bowl with steep sides, sprinkle a little Splenda on top and whip with a mixer until it holds firm peaks. It only takes a minute or two and it is really good. Land O' Lakes makes a can of whipped cream sweetened with Splenda. It's in the dairy case.

You can make your own Splenda sweetened gelatin with Knox, Kool-Aid and Splenda.

From another Atkins board [brackets mine]:
          Jello

Posted by xxxxxx on 1:06:48 pm - November 14, 2004

1 packet koolaid (small one non-sweetened)
          2 packets gelatin
          1 cup hot water
          3 cups cold water
Liquid sweetener to taste [or Splenda]

Put gelatin in a bowl and pour hot water over it and stir til dissolved, add koolaid packet and stir. Then add 3 cups of cold water and chill for 4 hours or so until stiff.

My gelatin is 30 calories, no carbs a packet. So this will fill you up for a very low calorie and carb cost.

[I like to mix the dry ingredients together then add to the water. No clumps of gelatin that way.]

On the Aspratame Front - I've noticed that Metamucil Orange has it. However, I can't imagine that it is such a bad thing. Is the problem that Aspratame causes sugar drops or is there something inherently carby about it?

It causes an identical reaction to your blood glucose that sugar does. That's why Dr. Atkins didn't approve of using it.

                    Re: Sf Jello

Well, it doesn't cause the "insulin reaction/real sugar reaction" in everyone, so it really comes down to a personal choice. However be sure to not use Aspartame in items that you are cooking with, as it changes the chemical properties and becomes quite unsafe.

I eat SF Jell-o (and did the first time I saw amazing results on Atkins) and don't seem to have an issue at all. However, I don't eat it nonstop. Maybe once a day, maybe.

I've had a friend who used to sip aspartame-sweetened soda on Atkins, however, and linked it to her stalls.

So its best to test it out and see for yourself!
