  • Needing a little Positive Vibe-age!

I'm posting this for a pick-me-up. I've bounced on/off this lifestyle in the past 6 months far too many times and this time its going to stick.

And I actually tracked my cheats to the times I seemed to be most active in this forum and... BINGO! The more I'm here, gaining knowledge and support and friendship with you fabulous folks, the better I am with the program. So.. HERE I AM! =) And I plan to be a lot more active and annoying, so get used to me ;-)

But yes.. I'm back on the program and doing pretty darn good. We had a Taco Bell trauma last week but other than that the past 2 weeks have been right where I need them to be and so has the weight loss.. so I am taking it one "good for me!" day at a time =) Besides I realized, much like Porcelain did at the movie theater with her popcorn, that burrito just didn't have the pizazz it used to.

I guess I'm just sitting here spazzed because on May 21st I will be having septoplasty which is basically a medically-needed nose job to straighten a deviated septum that has been delightfully preventing solid sleep and steady breathing for the last seven years *insert sarcasm*

My hubbie is fully prepared to cook for me when I can't cook for myself, so sticking to the foods should be fine. He's on it, too (not because he needs to lose weight but because he LOVES the food lol) but I've always been the one who makes everything aside from breakfast, so he's spending the next few days standing over me to see how it all goes down. =)

But between the potentially 6 long weeks without being able to exercise and being pretty much sedentary for the first 2+ of them, the antibiotics which are SURE to not play any helpful part in my weight loss, and the "just say no to Garlic" for the next 2 weeks and then few days after surgery (minced garlic is my crutch, if there is a dish I can put it in, I will lol) .. and the fact that my bikini vacation is here in just a mere 106 DAYS!! .. I'm having a mini stress attack.

And rather than do my usual hoard-all-the-office-cookies-in-my-tummy stress routine, I'm on here venting! And hoping folks can give me any positive vibes that even with the lack of exercise, weight loss CAN still happen even if at a slower rate. Has anyone else on here been doing Atkins during a long period when they literally could not exercise (even happy little strolls, etc)? How did your loss differ and any tips?

This is my second time on atkins, the first time my mistake was that i did NOT excercise, but i still lost weight really fast. This diet alone will cause you to lose weight when done properly as you know. Just make sure you start gradually adding back excercise little by little when its safe to do so again...even if its just some arm moves with light dumbells or slow walks...anything really...and slowly build up again when you're allowed. As long as you don't let it get you into a rut of not excercising again, you should be fine Good luck with your surgery hope all goes well!

Re: Needing a little Positive Vibe-age!

Britt, here's a story that might give you some hope:

My mom has been on Atkins for quite a while. She's a slow loser -- maybe a pound or two a month. And was okay with that. But, decided she wanted to pick up the pace and get more fit and started exercising. During that time period, her losses really didn't pick up much at all. And she was working out almost every day. Until she fell and broke her leg on a hike.... so she was laid up for a couple of months. Then, pretty soon after that healed, she got into a car accident and it messed up her knee and ankle.

So, for 3-4 months, she wasn't exercising (except for some physical therapy). She did stay on her eating plan, and guess what? Her weight loss picked up and she REALLY shrunk. I think she went from a 14 to a 10 or an 8. She's still not exactly sure why, except that maybe she was overdoing the exercise, perhaps eating more, and when she stopped, her body started to regulate itself. OR maybe it was just enough of a shock to her system -- the surgery on her leg, quitting the exercise cold turkey, etc. -- that it something changed. Who knows??

Anyway, the point is that the body does strange things. If you keep your eating where it should be, and try to eat to your hunger and not out of sedentary boredom, I think you might be surprised at how well your body adapts.

Hey, I have a very deviated septum, too. I've always been a through-the-mouth breather. I'm curious -- when they fix the inside, does it also straighten the outside? That would be a nice perk to getting the insides fixed!

Hey you can vent to me any time any day! Just don't touch those cookies!!!!! Weightloss is still possible, it might slow down. Stay on the plan and work in excercise when you're allowed! My first two weeks of Induction I didn't workout and I lost 9 lbs. Everyone is different! Good luck! And seriously if you need to vent, I will listen!

I'm doing both. The septoplasty will go internal and even things out as they need to be. The cosmetic portion (paid for by me, not insurance, but MUCH lower than I expected since its one surgery and insurance already covers the surgical suite, anesthesiologist, etc etc) is going to re-center the bridge and while I'm at it, shave down a little bit of my hump lol

Might as well nab a perk or two while I'm there, eh? ;-P

OH! And I hear it actually takes a lot out of your body for the healing process, so perhaps that is what your mom experienced!

Re: Needing a little Positive Vibe-age!

When I first started atkins, I was too lazy to do excercise. I didn't feel like I had enough energy or will power. But I lost a lot of weight, like 30lbs in a short amount of time, like 1 1/2 months just by diet alone. So that is very important. When I dropped that 30lbs, I had so much more energy to work out. So it ended up being ok that I didn't excersie for that 1 1/2 months. So as long as you stick to diet, I think you will be ok. And ready to rock when you are feeling able to work out again.

Re: Needing a little Positive Vibe-age!

I dont exercise at all, other than my beat walk. Otherwise I'm way too busy juggling 2 different softball schedules, piano and violin lessons, batting practice and whatever else comes up in a week raising 2 girls. So my running around is about all the exercise I get. However, as of late, me wife playing hard to get so I gotta chase her around the house. Is that considered exercise?? God Bless, Joe
