  • A couple of Food questions Sommersizing (is that a bad word here?) and beets

Hi all, I don't know if anyone on here is familiar with Suzanne Somers Sommersizing. Here is my question. The Sommersize diet is a little similar to Atkins in that it is low carb. but it is also about combinations (i.e. eat fruit alone, have grains but not with dairy etc...) I am doing Atkins but I had purchased some of the Sommersize chocolate bars because they are made with Stevia instead of sugar. I am looking at the nutritional facts and it says NO sugar, but it still has 24 carbs/ and 11 sugar alcohols.
So it would seem this is not allowed on induction. Can anyone tell me if ALL carbs are bad I hear about net carbs etc...

Also... I LOVE pickled beets. But beets are sweet and I assume have some carbs.. I can't read the pocket induction page on here it's too small and my computer won't enlarge it enough to read (is the computer or am I getting old?) Are beets ok on induction?
Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

The bars are not okay for induction at all. Lots of stuff in there that is not on the list. Some people metabolize sugar alcohols more than others, but it's bad news either way. If they cause you severe stomach distress, you are probably not absorbing the sugars. If they don't cause distress, you probably are absorbing every gram of carbs as sugar.

Beets are not for induction, either. They have a lot of natural sugar, and pickled beets have a lot of real sugar in the pickling solution. Beets and carrots are way up the rungs of the ladder. Better get the book and read it so you will know how to do this correctly.

Thanks for the input Sunny. I have the book, but my husband got on a clean spree and boxed all of our books and I can't find which box my book is in so I joined this site hoping the site and my recollection of the induction foods (from reading the book) would get me through. I just may have to buy it again if I can't find it soon!

Read the stickies in the induction forum as well...that should help until you find your book.
