  • Advise On Protein Shakes Needed

    HI EVERYONE!
    Can I have your advise?
I'm on OWL rung 1 or 2 (veggies + cheese).
What do you think about protein shake, "anabolic whey"?
    Per serving(29g):
    Calories 115
    Calories from Fat 18
    Protein 21,5 g
    Carbohydrates 3 g
    Fat 2 g

Ingredients (chocolate flavor): Anabolic Whey protein matrix (micro-ultrafiltered whey protein concentrate, micro-ultrafiltered whey protein isolate, ion-exchange whey protein isolate, hydrolyzed whey peptides), Dutch cocoa, natural and artificial flavors, aspartame*, xanthan gum.
    *PHENYLKETONURICS: Contains phenylalanine

I eat it sometimes (ones or twice a week), preparing it with a little iced water to make it taste like chocolate mousse!

I also had 2 diet sprite this week!

I'm not at all happy about my progress! It's been a month since i started and i have lost 3 pounds (goal 12). I'm always losing a pound to regain it the next day and then lose it again and so on! I'm frustrated!
And when I'm frustrated I eat. Some more cheese, a slice of ham, or a protein shake. HELP

Dr. Atkins urged us to avoid aspartame as it is a known staller of weight loss.

The whey protein is allowed on rung 2 of OWL. However, I urge you to find a brand that does not have aspartame or FRUCTOSE as the sweetner. There are several brands that taste very good which are sweetened with Splenda, Acesulfame Potassium, or even Stevia.

Dairy products are known to be problem foods for quite a number of people. So, be ever vigilant to not abuse the protein shakes. They also can keep your daily protein way too high, so make sure that you add fat to them. Atkins is a high fat diet, not a high protein diet at only about 30% (no more than that) of our daily calories coming from protien.

I just wanted to say that since you have so little to lose that 3 pounds in one month is actually really really good!! Hang in there.

I really like these on hot days when I feel like neither cooking nor eating. I use a Walmart one sweetened with Ace K and Splenda. I like to mix it with different things and turn it into a smoothie or a mocha ice drink. I always add some cream for added fat.
I stay away from Aspartame too.

How is your weight program going these days?

If you are still not losing, you're clearly doing something wrong & I'd bet that your error is packing in too many calories and hoping the Atkins diet will compensate. Maybe not.

But heres what I'd do..... download the stand alone version of FitDay software for about $45 ..... EASY to use.... EASY to learn.... and GREAT for keeping track of your eats. The more you use it, the less time it takes because it learns your diet & before long you're just clicking on your most common eats ... about 90 seconds per meal. At the end of the day, it counts your carbs for you.... calories..... fats...... EVERYTHING is calculated for you. HIGHLY recommended. I've used it for about three years & when looking at the graphs, I can see my weight creeping up.

The graph wasn't a motivator to lose, though.... my blood pressure was. So, you have to realize that losing weight is only partly looks..... you want to avoid a stroke & heart disease. Young people can have both.... and years and years of heart disease is a baaaaaaad way to end your life because you're in between death and living.

You can also track your foods using the free version of FitDay. It's what I've been doing for over a year and it doesn't take me more than 2 minutes to put everything in.

And the bonus of using the free version is that you can access it from anywhere
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I can't recall what I didn't care for about the 'free' version, but the stand alone version is so inexpensive that I opted for it. Then, when the web is out of reach for some reason, I'm not unable to use FitDay. The stand alone version is what I always recommend to people. Except it bugs me that with such a great product, they FAILED to allow for tracking of blood pressure so I have to simply put it into the "diary" section & observe it manually.

On the protein shakes, my weight this morning was up HALF pound despite coming in @ nearly a 1,000 calories less than I could have yesterday thanks to my treadmill exercise. I don't understand this diet, truthfully. On a calorie counting diet that I once did, coming in two or three days in a row with fewer calories like that would show on the scale. My salt intake yesterday was low so it isn't a matter of salt caused water retention.
