  • Is 16/18 impossible?

I know lots of people will say nothings impossible, But yeah a few things are...
A few months ago my Mother bought me a bunch of cute "Goal Clothes." Which ranged from sizes (XL-A pant size 16, And a Large in a shirt I adored) I have never been those sizes. Or I was too young to remember. I'm 4'9 1/2 (Yep, 4ft) And my pant size is like 23-24 (not sure I used to rip tags off) And when I was talking with someone else in my family after I had found that bag of clothes again it isnpired me to start my weightloss. I even have a Kimono style outfit for when I lose weight. But the family asked me what "inspired" me. And I decided to show them I showed them all the clothes. And they picked up the 16/18 and looked at me and said "You honestly think you could fit in these?"

Now I guess they didn't mean it so the way I took it. But it hurt my feelings I didn't let on. But it did. I spent a few hours after she left pondering on that. My arms my stomach My legs and my body is so big for such a short person, Maybe I couldn't never go as low as the XL at Wal*Mart (where these are from), Maybe I have gained too much weight and those clothes are impossible goals. I don't even know what it would be like to be so small. But since I have lost the weight I have (Went from 250 to 230) The pants I used to uh.. Squeeze in to zip up, Want to fall to my ankles. I'm sorry for such a wrong post but there is really no one to tell this to I know. I was dieting with that family memebr but she decided to quit, And she has tried a few other new diets. (I cant convince her to come over to the atkins, :P) I know I will lose till I am comfortable, I just wonder if I will ever enjoy shopping for clothes and shoes, And being able to really take long walks and not be winded going to the mall.

I really am sorry if this sounds whiney.

*Hugs* to the person who read this far, Thank you for listening.

How do they know it's impossible? Is that just their way of saying you've tried to lose weight and haven't been successful so you won't be successful this time either? Will they be jealous if you get to a smaller size?

I believe, not only is it possible, that could be just the beginning! It will take hard work and exercise. You will have to be willing to give up all of the sugary junk that the typical diet is made up of and commit yourself wholeheartedly to this WOE. It's really your decision. Are you in this for them....or for you? Are you willing to stick with it for life if it will get you to your goal weight and keep you there?

Don't let anyone take this away from you. Go for it and surprise them all!

      Re: Is 16/18 impossible?

Only you can decide what is possible and what is impossible for your journey. DON"T let anyone else tell you how successful you can be.

I TOO have goal outfits... I bought one in every size so I could enjoy them AS I lost the weight. IN fact I am heading to the city today and put on a pair of pants I bought which were too small... by 3 sizes and what do ya know... they are loose on me this morning... I WILL shop in regular size clothing stores... for me for the first time in my life as well....

THis Atkins way of life gives us all the tools we need to get our bodies to the prefect weight for our frames... follow the plan and you will see that to be the truth.

One other thing. Generally speaking people don't like change, and if you have been a big person for a LONG time, some people around you will not be able to handle the change you are making for yourself. NOT because they don't want you to be heathy, but because if you change then things for them change. SOmetimes people around you say crazy things because they are afraid you will fail and don't want to be so gung hoe if you do fail... don't let the words of others effect your journey with Atkins...KEEP your head down, do what feels right and soon they will see you blossom into the person you have been hiding away all these years.!

      BE well
      and
      Keep us posted

        Re: Is 16/18 impossible?

I have been big my whole adult life. When I started Atkins back in 2005 I went from a very tight size 22 pants to a size 14 in 9 months. Anything is possible. Have you looked at the success stories on here? If not, check them out. You will see many stories of over 100 pound weight losses. I think your friend was just jealous because she hasn't been able to be successful and you are showing signs of success.

You don't say how old you are. That makes a lot of difference in how much your skin will shrink. I am 57 and 5' tall. I know that 2 1/2 inches makes a difference but I would think you should easily get down to the size you desire. I started at 175 in 2003, was very strict for a year then got sloppy and over the next 4 years went back up to 159. It has taken me 9 months to lose 28 pounds. I have several size 6 pants now but am still in an XL top. Some might think a large bust a blessing but not me!

If I can do this so can you. Short people seem to have a difficult time loosing quickly but we can still lose.

Its crazy to think you can't do this and at your age you have youth on your side. You can do this. You just have to want it bad enough. If you really want it, you will do it. It will only take you staying on this diet. Every time you think I will do anything to lose this weight remember you only have to follow this diet. You need to exercise, start out small and work your way up. You can definetly do it.

I'm 4'11! yeah shorties!!!! I also often feel the same way. I am in a size tight 20 or 22. I have never been in jr sizes. went from a girls 16 plus to a women's 16 up to a 22 now (I was in jr high 12 years old when I wore a 16 and now am 24 at a 22 so 1/2 my life I've been in plus sizes) I cannot even imagine how it will be to fit in anything below a 16. but alas, it IS atainable!!!! We can do it, we will do it!!!!! Good luck and we're all here anytime you want to talk! That's what we're here for!!!!

Kudos to you for doing this now rather than later. I'm almost 55 and sometimes I think its really sad I wasted so many years being fat. And some things I loved, I've pretty well ruined for myself, like all day hiking (arthritic knees). You are doing this early enough to avoid a lot of problems later!

I tooo am fitting in a lot of clothes I have not been able to wear in a couple of years. it is partly the diet and a lot of it is exercise. Don't let anyone put you down. You can definitely make it!

I'm 6' tall. I wear a 24/26, I am hoping to get down to a 14. I think that any goal is possible as long as you work for it. You aren't losing the weight for anyone else but yourself, so as long as you believe that you can do it, nothing anyone else says matters. You can do it!
