Hi- is it ok to eat 2 atkins bars in one day? Say one in the morning and another as a evening treat? I just want to make sure that it doesn't slow down any potential weight loss.
    Thanks

    Re: atkins bars

I was wanting to have one to replace b-day cake. That seems to be frowned upon here on the boards because it is not "wholesome" food. :-(
I am still thinking about it but will probably stick with the lesser of the two evils and go with dang sugar free jello.

      Re: atkins bars

I too had one bar daily thinking that it was only 2 or 3 net carbs but then after a while I realized that it was causing me to get wicked sugar cravings where I was looking for something sweet all the time. Had to quit those---they really are too good to be true, IMO.

Eh, I wouldn't. They're ok as an every once in awhile/desperate situation thing, but I wouldn't eat those every day and definitely not twice a day. For one thing, they definitely stall me and for another they mess up my stomach like nobody's business. If you don't mind being on the toilet all day long, then go for it.

          Re: atkins bars

Some people may be able to eat those bars. Others get cravings and stall with them.
This board follows the 2002 Atkins book and during induction it is important to ONLY eat products from the allowed food list. This will help new Atkineers to get rid of cravings, get into ketosis and develop new healthy habits. The problem with the bars (and the shakes) is that they contain things we should not be eating on induction.

Also (and this is my beef) I am not comfortable with how they count the carbs in those bars. How many carbs are there really in them? They have selected to not count the glycerin they add as carbs - that is somewhat contriversal.

In my opinion, hanging around here for some months, I think the people who will be successful on this diet are those that are willing to really follow the principles of the diet and start really fresh and new. I recommend it. Trying to get away with eating 'sweet' things on Atkins is not the way to do it. Try to liberate yourself. Two weeks is not a long time. It could change your life forever!!

            Re: atkins bars

Even Dr. Atkins admitted to having the occasional, albeit small, slice of cake or something sweet on special occasions.
I will not ever cut those things out for good. I like the atkins diet so far and hope to stay on it. But I know that I will NEVER not want to have a sweet every now and then. That is why I am accumulating so many of the "dessert" recipes from the boards here. Which only goes to prove that I am not alone in wanting to keep some of life's sweet treasures in our diets as there are several recipes to choose from.

But Atkins was not on induction when he did that.
Here is the 5th rule of induction (pg 123 in DANDR)

Eat nothing that is not on the acceptable foods list. And that means absolutely nothing! Your "just this one taste won't hurt" rationalization is the kiss of failure during this phase of Atkins.

This cracks me up since my husband (not a member of forum and started this with me on August 27th) had been eating a few sugar free candies here and there had the same exact trouble. He has since given them up. He kept trying to get me to indulge, but I wouldn't. I just told him that if that is what they are going to do to your insides, then I do NOT think the sweet is worth the trouble! LoL
Funny thing is though, but not funny ha ha, is that he has actually put my weight loss to shame. He is up to twenty pounds lost now! I tell him how proud I am of him and that he is doing such a great job....but man oh man..everytime he gets off that scale grinning, I just want to say " shut the h*** up! He's killing me. Not a competition, I know, but doesn't feel very good since my progress through las Saturday could not even begin to stand in the same room with his.

                  Re: atkins bars

Ultimately, its up to you.... try it out for a week, and then try a week without the 2 bar a day plan and see which is better. Its probably going to slow your loss, not stop it....depending on your dicipline and your activity level.

However, I think many of the successful adbb'ers would highly reccomend you stay away from the bars altogether.

I never intended to eat them while on induction. But I do look forward to having something yummy sweet soon. I am collecting recipes now.

Good Luck! I'm sure you will find the balance as you go. Just be careful, I've been so near to goal sooo many times and ended up right where I began because I read the diet and interpreted the rules my own way. I'm still struggling to get it right.

There is a lot of info here and people are always trying to help you do the best you can do... but remember its always totally up to you!

I've definetly noticed over the years (I've been a members since 2003) that the people that have the most success follow 2002 DANDR exactly.

But I am not one of those

I know exactly how you feel!!! My husband is exactly the same way. I originally only had less than 10 to lose and started this to support him, but now that he's lost 25 pounds in 2 months and I've only still lost 6 or 7, he mocks me! And he's the one deviating from the Atkins whereas I'm reading every word and staying very regimented. I even gave up caffeine!!! and by the way, the atkins bars don't affect him while they give me crazy sweet cravings.

It is so refreshing, even though still bitter lol, to hear someone else dealing with the male ability to lose tons more weight in the same time frame. Same here about the "by the book" and him trying all these "little tricks" to get by. )
I am glad you are supporting him though, that is great. I would not have been able to do this by myself either!
