  • Food questions for you...

Hello all, just from reading posts on this forum, I have some questions:

    1. I know you're supposed to eat a meal with protein/fat/and healthy carbs. If I eat a burger- will it count as my protein and fat? Or should I add a slice of cheese as my fat?

    2. I know sausage and lunchmeat are processed meats, which from what I've been reading- have hidden carbs... is this correct? The back of the nutrition labels say they have 0g carbs...

    A. Unless your beef burger is extra lean, it would probably count as your protein and fat. If, say, it was ground turkey or ground round, you would need to add mayo or cheese.

    Q. 2. I know sausage and lunchmeat are processed meats, which from what I've been reading- have hidden carbs... is this correct? The back of the nutrition labels say they have 0g carbs..

    A. For processed foods, you are better off not paying any attention to the nutritional info. Go straight to the ingredients list. If a serving size has less than one full carb, they can list it as zero. They make the serving size really tiny so they can say it has no carbs. A serving size for a hot dog is a half. Who ever eats a half of a hot dog? Most all sausage has sugar or dextrose. Luncheon meats have sugar and some kind of starch for a binder, plus nitrates.

Case in point: Salt/sodium is getting a bad rap, so to make sauerkraut sound more healthy, they started listing the serving size as 1 tablespoon, so they could say it had no sodium! I wasn't interested in the sodium, but I would like to know the carbs, but at 1 tablespoon, that was also zero. No way to account for the 1/2 cup serving I was going to eat.

You're gonna be sorry you got me started! If something says sugar free, be sure to check if it has corn syrup, molasses, evaporated cane juice, dextrose and so on in the ingredients list. Sugar free Cool Whip is made with corn syrup and has more calories and carbs than the original.

    Sunny!

People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

yeah, food labels in the states are so bogus.
      Here, 0-.49g is 0
      .5-1.49=1
      etc.....
so, you can get in trouble if not very careful.

with experience you will get the hang of it.

        Re: Food questions for you...

We are so lucky here in UK as our labels list nutrition per 100 grams (3.5 ounces) or per 100 mls (3.5 fluid ounces) so we can more accurately work out what our own 'serving' has in it.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
