  • I understand a plateau.. but weight gain?

hi..all.. as you know.. I have lost until today... 7 lbs... plus.. 1.5 lbs which I gained right back the next day... so.. I have held steady at 128... for one week.. until today.. now.. 129.. so... maybe I ate too much bacon yesterday and I know I did not drink hardly any water yesterday due to my job.. I am a family therapist and the homes I visited yesterday.. have deplorable bathrooms... anyway.. and ALWAYS.. ALWAYS... 13 days before my period.. my body says.."GAIN WEIGHT"... and so... this is probably the period weight... I am also on birth control and am older.. 49... what bothers me.. is... I have experienced this period weight gain for years... and it is soo depressing to only enjoy your true weight for roughly 9 days of the month.. which is right after your period... and now my jeans feel tighter... I exercise... 4 days a week... 4 hours of cardio and will start weight training with a trainer on saturday. But I know.. my weight won't budge until my next period is over in two weeks... I eat 3 scrambled eggs in the am with butter and l slice of mozz cheese.. with some bacon ... then lunch is usually salad greens. with hard boiled eggs. with blue cheese dressing.. cucumbers.. then... dinner is fish in butter... or hamburger patties dipped in mayo...lots of water... I have hot decaffenated tea with splenda... 2 packs.. lots of water.. and have been doing fine... except the week of plateau and now the one lb gain.. help... any suggestions? the salad greens are usually a cup and half.. as I don't eat any in the evening.. sometimes some celery with cream cheese.. the salad I make has a pinch of cheddar and pinch of parm cheese ... thanks.. Lia.. If I am correct.. I will be up to 130 tomorrow... by the time my period comes.. I will be 132... not fair!!!

Don't be upset, it's just water retention, and it's not real weight. True weight gain is fat gain, water weight doesn't count. Try not to be so obsessed with the scale. If your clothes are still fitting you well, you know you are not getting fat!

Hormones sure do a work with us. But as Judy say we are talking water retention here not real weight. Don't let numbers on the scale govern your whole life. You are doing good things. Eating healthy and exercising. Also try to become friends with the measuring tape. It often tells a much happier story.

At least you now know that it is nothing wrong with your eating plan making your weight fluctuate, but just your body's natural rythmn. (hug)
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Hey! I am the same, my TOM really affects my weight - I just ignore it. Lots of factors affect your weight balance including exercise.

Really hard if you are addicted to the scales, but just try if you can, not to weigh for 2 week periods - thats what I tend to do and to be honest, I look at my weight loss for the month.

Also, very important with this WOE, is your scales may be telling you one thing but your tape measure for certain will be telling you another. I can stay the same for 3 weeks but drop a dress size!!!!

Keep with it, you are doing so well. Just don't get fixed on those scales, its the overall picture you should be looking at!

          Good luck!

Re: I understand a plateau.. but weight gain?

Lia, I feel your pain. I was going at a great clip for 5 days into induction (1lb a day) until that time came, one week before like clockwork all the clothes get tight. I "gained" back 2.5 lbs, then lost .5lbs...ugh. I'm just drinking a ton of water in hopes that next week I'll shrink practically overnight and see the weight loss that I've earned!

Just keep on it, you'll kick yourself later if you don't!

Stay off the scales, they are evil and will drive you nuts. Just weight yourself every other week and you'll see a great change.
