Re: Atkins Book
The first edition of Dr Atkins books, Dr Atkins Diet Revolution (DADR), was very different to the one we follow here, so you might see if you can get hold of a copy so we are all on the 'same page'.
As Kevin said, we follow Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) 2002 edition, and you can pick up copies quite cheaply in secondhand book shops or charity shops (thrift shops? in USA), or even online. Make sure you check the publishing date, as there also was a 1992 edition which was different again
The 2002 edition was a rewrite and adaptation of his original ideas as in previous books, formulated after 30 years of treating patients in his clinics to make the way of eating more effective and easier for more people to stick to.
In the mean time take a look at the threads in the FAQ forum which deal with induction if that is the phase you are on at present. They ought to get you started on the 'new' diet
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Atkins Book
I replaced my 1999 version with the 2002 version the other day.
I found it in Walmart for $5.97.
I thought of buying several copies and putting them back until my sisters are ready to try Atkins.
The new version is GREATLY improved over the older versions. The 1972 (original) version has undergone a lot of major changes as Dr. Atkins learned more about heart health.

Try ebay. They have some for $7.99 that includes postage.Originally posted by Barbee View PostYou should have bought them all up. I've been checking and I can't find one for under $25 on Amazon or any used book place online.
But be careful. That's where I got my 1999 version. I thought I was ordering the 2002 version.

Re: Atkins Book
What a pity you are not in UK - I just bought 3 copies for 50 pence in a charity shop to add to my 'handout' pile. I also got a slightly scruffy copy of the 1992 edition for 10 p from the damaged books bin which I am looking forward to reading and comparing the differences between the two others I have (1972 & 2002)Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

What about the local used books stores? There are a couple of them in your town.Originally posted by Barbee View PostYou should have bought them all up. I've been checking and I can't find one for under $25 on Amazon or any used book place online.
I did a quick check on Craig's list and someone in Niagra Falls has 19 books that you can get for $2 total!!! One is a copy of DANDR, but the cover looks different (yellow instead of blue). For $2, you can at least get a copy to get you started, and read some Nora Roberts and other stuff while you're at it or sell them to get your $2 back!

Re: Atkins Book
I have just had a quick look at the 1992 version I bought this week (for 10 pence in a charity shop) and it seems as if the foods list and rules are not too different.
However so far I have not seen a mention of 'net carbs' (total carbs minus fiber) in it, so maybe Dr A didnt discover the concept of net carbs till after he published the book.
The main difference apart from that seems to be that there is no structure to OWL (ongoing weight loss) phase and he seems to say you can pick and choose which foods to add in 5 (total) carb increments.
So your book should be fine for induction.
PS I have send you a private message about getting hold of the 2002 edition.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

i was wondering if the carbohydrate gram counter gives the value 'net carbs' .. and in the induction phase does the three cups of salad vegetables a day include 20 g of net carb or total carb.. please help me out.. guess i'm having trouble understanding the difference between net carb and total carb in terms of the quantity we have to consume...
i'll also read the faq section of OWL to see if i can find out more there..
thank you once again

Re: Atkins Book
If this is not an appropriate post, delete it but I have the "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002" book that I no longer need. I also have his "Gram Counter 2002", "Atkins Essentials 2004", "The Atkins Shopping Guide 2004", "Atkins for Life", and a couple of Dana Carpender's books if anyone is interested. Oh and also The Carbohydrate Addicts Healthy Heart Program 1999.
Maybe a 'good' offer for the whole lot.
