  • Stopping Atkins - HELP!!!!!!!

I have been doing Atkins for 7 weeks now. I have lost 10lbs. I want to stop doing Atkins and do a low fat diet i.e. weight watchers or something similar. I am worried that if I change diets I will regain the weight I have lost on Atkins as my body will store any carbs I eat as fat. Anyone have any tips on how best I can do this or has anyone experienced this first hand?

    PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!

If you're losing weight on this WOE, why would you want to stop? I don't think you'll find people who offer support to you quitting Atkins on this board, since this is an Atkins Support board. The Atkins diet, is not a diet at all, but a way of life. What is your reason for wanting to quit?

Also, are you still doing Induction, or have you started moving up the OWL rungs? If it's an issue of being bored with the food, maybe you should move into OWL and get some variety.

      Start date: 03/14/09
      Goal #1 - 260 - Met 04/12/09! Goal #4 - 230 - Met 08/03/09!
      Goal #2 - 250 - Met 05/22/09! Goal #5 - 220 - Met 01/29/10 FINALLY!
      Goal #3 - 240 - Met 06/20/09! Goal #6 - 210

I agree with both of the previous posts...

        1) why change if it's working?

        2) move through the rungs... by the time you get to the last rung, the only foods that aren't allowed are refined sugars/flours/junk. You shouldn't be eating that, anyway.

And yep... if you switch to low fat from low carb, there is a chance you will regain the weight... depends upon whether your low fat diet restricts calories a lot (which they usually do). If you do low fat and keep your calories low enough, you may be able to sustain the loss... and be miserable from being hungry.

yeah i moved into OWL but as soon as I increased my veg intake by 5 net carbs my weight loss stopped. I never lost anymore weight. Am fed up now. The only good thing about Atkins is it curbs your appetite... I am going to have to go on will power alone...

What did you add? How often did you add it? Did you keep the rest of your menu the same? Did your body measurements change?

relatively speaking chinders, you don't have a whole lot to lose. You lose weight more slowly the less you have to lose. It isn't an overnight cure, its a lifestyle change. If your attitude is "this isn't working fast enough, im moving on to the next diet" when you've barely given it 2 months, none of the other diets you try will work either. You can safely lose 1-2lbs a week, and you're in the right area, so why are you giving up?
And for the record, there is a LOT more to love about atkins besides curbing your appetite. Speaking of, are you eating enough? working out? drinking water? induldging in fake sweeteners? Eating processed meat/cheese? Having enough fat? There may be another reason to your lack of loss that you might not even notice day to day.

Im gonna say you already know you will gain your weight back so why would you switch?

                Two choices.

                1) Keep doing what caused you to lose and keep off 10 pounds.

                2) Switch to something that you believe will cause you to gain the 10 pounds back.

Hit my altered goal of 180 in 4 months.
My max weight goal is 175 and Im trying to keep between 165 to 170.
