    Hello All,
My wife is interested in joining me on the Atkins diet, but she has Candida, which not to put fine apoint on it means she needs lots and lots fibre to eliminate properly. She can eliminiate very easily when she eats yogarts which contain probiotics, but again she needs around 350g of probiotic yogarts a day.

The problem is that when she has tried the Atkins before she really, REALLY had trouble eliminating, which in turn caused her stomach ache and she felt uncomfortable as you can imagine.
She did try Psyilium husks but she could not stand drinking it so she gave up and ditched the diet.
Admittedly our Atkins did contain quite a bit of red meat (burgers) which would slow elimination, but even when she cut down to mainly chicken she again still found it difficult to eliminate albeit not as much as when there was more red meat being eaten.
Although she did eat lots of pork, which does pass through most people very quickly but not in the case of my wife, who as I said suffers from Candida.
Have you any ideas for her please ?
    Thank you

Yogurts do not contain any fiber.

Here are a few links on how to do Atkins while clearing up yeast:

She should also know that one will feel worse before feeling better. This is known as the Herxheimer reaction. As bacteria die, they release toxins into the body faster than the body can eliminate them. Once the body gets rid of the toxins, she will start feeling better. Plenty of water, vegetables on the KISS list and a fiber supplement will help with the symptoms.

I could never get a glass of psyllium husks in water down without gagging either

So I used to mix them into mayonnaise and have it with chopped celery as a snack instead.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

There are many chewable fiber pills on the market that don't taste bad... I take Fiber Choice Weight Management which has Inulin and is a probiotic... Also it doesn't puff up like other fibers so I don't get bloating...

The candida should slowly go away as all sugar is removed from her system, as it promotes the growth of yeast. How long did she last on Atkins the first time?

It would be hard to not eat any cheese, mushrooms, pickles, olives, mayo or salad dressing on the diet, but it can be done for a bit... Usually it takes a minimum of 4 weeks before symptoms of candida start to abate.

Getting rid of the candida before starting the diet is probably the best way to go...

Many use flax seed (ground) instead of psyllium. There are lots of recipes around using these. If your wife does try them, be sure and tell her to drink masses of water, or she might have the opposite reaction.
I like flax crackers: Just mix ground flaxseed with water and a bit of parmesan; spread thin on baking parchment; microwave a few mins until semi cooked; cut into the shape you want the crackers to be; continue microwaving until crisp.

            Re: Candida

The diet to get rid of the Candida for good is like a very strict Induction. Once she gets rid of the overgrowth of yeast from her digestive system, her elimination will become normal. She is going at it from the wrong direction. She would lose a lot of weight just from getting rid of the bloat.

She can take probiotics from supplements until she is all clear, than on rung 2, she can add the yogurt back in.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
