    Re: Bacon, Bacon, Bacon

I eat all the bacon i want, but it is usually only 2-3 pieces.More than that I experience nausea. As far as retaining water because of sodium content, who cares? It is only fluid and easily eliminated.Body fat is my concern.

In the grand scheme of things, agreed. However, in my day to day, a high-sodium-intake day makes me look and feel "puffy," especially in my face. I can always tell by my wedding ring how "puffy" the sodium makes me feel.

        About salt
I was just reading Cordain's the Paleo Diet which was an interesting read. He recommends (well demands actually) that to follow his programme you eat absolutely no salt (because prehistoric man apparantly did not eat salt). I was thinking that I probably could not do that. Salt is kind of one the few spices I use. But yeah - problematic if you eat too much.

Surely he means added salt, no? I find that everything has sodium in it. I never/rarely need to add salt to anything except beef. Even then I use Celtic sea salt after Sunny turned me onto it b

Well I don't think prehistoric man bought his food at the supermarket. And there is not that much salt in food naturally, I think. Salt content of the blood of animal may be higher than any other part.

              Re: Bacon, Bacon, Bacon

For 3 weeks or so I ate 3 strips of bacon every morning with my breakfast (2 hard boiled eggs, a couple of slices of hard cheese).

I cut it back to one slice and less cheese as my appetite was certainly suppressed by then.

I think it's a good food for this diet. I'd eat it liberally if it helped me to move forward on things.

              Good Luck Johnathan!
