  • How does this happen?

Hey can someone explain to me how it is possible to gain 4 pounds in ONE day? TOM? I am PCOS...so I never know when "it" is coming....Excess sodium intake maybe??? One day I am 179...the next 183 :yikes ..... (I usually NEVER weigh more than once a week..I weighed in on my weigh day at 179.....then bad me...I got on the scale to check the next day to see if it was "for real" ...and got 183 :no LOL!

    Thanks!

I'm no expert, but I would guess that it's sodium intake/water retention. Do you have sore muscles from working out? You will retain water until the pain stops. You are losing weight nicely. I was stalled for 4 months until I cut out all dairy, nuts and splenda. I finally am losing weight at a nice rate. You are doing excellent! I would not worry about it if I were you! Keep up the great work!

Are you weighing at the same time of the day when you weigh? I was told always weigh first thing in the morning. If I weigh when I get up and weigh later in the day I will be anywhere from 2 to 4 pounds heavier than in the morning. I can weigh the next morning and be the same or less than the previous morning. I hope that makes sense to you. weigh at the same time everytime you weigh.

Hi, Thanks for your replies....I generally do weigh once a week and at the same time of day...in the morning usually.

That info about muscle and water retention post exercise is surprising! I never knew that! Well, it is sure good to know Maybe that is it....I am also going to stay off of the scale for about two weeks because I am going to try to rely on measuring instead....as I have before...

I set a weight goal that I want to reach by May 1st...and I am getting closer, so I am probably focusing on the scale more than I should!

If i eat too much sodium (nuts, peperoni, etc) i can easily gain 3-4 lbs overnight...it's pretty much gone again in a day if i watch my sodium intake. Measuring is probably a much better idea..

Well, that definitely seems to fit with my diet for that day......(bacon, ham etc...all high in sodium) I just had never seen that happen before so it kind of shocked me! Thanks for the extra tip!

                Hi, Kat!

I have a problem with sodium, which is surprising because I don't have high blood pressure so I never knew, but I retain water very easily. I did some research and found that Vit B6 (200 mg) five days before your TOM ONLY will help with TOM gain - not more than 5 days because it's too much (toxic). ALSO, I found out adding a GOOD Super B Complex will help and take that every day.

Anyway, I did these two things and it is working. I would have one little piece of bacon and bloat really bad. I still watch my sodium, and went out a got Salt Lite (less sodium). So, now it's more even and I don't see the 2-3 pound gain overnight like I used to.

I use fitday.com to keep track of my diet and it REALLY lets you know when you've gone over (you have to add that you are tracking sodium).

                Keep us posted,
                Lori

Hey everyone.....not to give you TMI or anything,...just a follow up to my post..... but my weight gain ended up being because of TOM. I don't like that "Tom fellow" lol...My weight went back to what it was....and now I am excited for TOM to leave so I can see my loss after the water weight is all gone! Woohoo!
