      Please!

A local nutritionist, Carol Stapleton, with the Johnson County Health Department, said the Atkins diet "is not as nutritious as we would like their diet to be. That being said, if people are hungry, then I don't think it would be adverse for them to supplement their diet with that."

PLEASE! Are they saying we are eating badly?

Eh, good to know that if we do die of a heart attack from this way of eating.. at least we will look good! Not to mention that our cholesterol level will be normal, sugar levels, body fat %, etc. etc.

Why doesn't any of these news reporters read the book before saying yay or nay to atkins?

Well they tried out to be comedians but well, they didnt quite make it!

I found this comment on the bars and shakes hilarious....

"For diet food, it tastes good, but it's not like having a milkshake or a Pepsi," said Eileen Mullins"

Whoa a regular albert einstein ain't they...If you get free food to feed the poor don't complain on what is donated...

"Bob Goldin, executive vice president of Technomic Inc., a food industry research and consulting firm, said many companies overproduced low-carb foods and now are stuck with it. "

Well now if you make something and slap low carb on it yet on the label have things like oh I dont know DEXTROSE, CORN SYRUP, WHEAT FLOUR what do you really expect?

Lets see, now they eat high carb then low carb then high again then low carb hmm, can anyone tell me why this is not nutritious?

          Yes billy in the back,
Billy: because its a yo-yo diet and I want to wrap my yo yo string around Stapleton's neck for being an idiot?

VERY GOOD BILLY extra credit for your intelligent use of a yo yo!

With so many nutritionalist in the world who needs comedians anyway!

Two years ago one of my supermarkets put up 3 shelves of "low carb" food: soy pastas, various bars, shakes, snacks, bake mixes, bread mixes, etc. Those shelves are now gone (they weren't selling well). At the same time they carried the full line of Carb-Well products (those products have disappeared as well).

If you take the time to read and compare the "low carb" and "regular", sometimes the low carb is higher in carbs or has a bunch of chemicals that make you wonder how good they are to put into your body. Sometimes the products are the same---exactly the same, same ingredients, same carbs---but labeled differently and priced differently.

People are wising up and the companies are losing money. I knew something was up when I saw Atkins products (pancake mix and the bars) in the local dollar store.

When I started this wol, there were no products on the market to support my "diet"

Fortunately, I haven't needed any of them either. The products may fizzle but for me low carb is forever. As long as I have meat, cheese, veggies and fruit....I'm happy!

                  From the article:

Those who follow the food industry say a decline in the public's appetite for low-carb foods is leaving manufacturers with a surplus. Industry estimates indicate the number of Americans following any low-carb diet peaked in February 2004 and has fallen dramatically since then.

Bob Goldin, executive vice president of Technomic Inc., a food industry research and consulting firm, said many companies overproduced low-carb foods and now are stuck with it.
Yeah, food researchers and consulting firms. Of course, they are gonna see the decline in packged food products because it suits their intrests and wallets to do so. What no one ever does research on is reality because basicly what these dumb (put your own word in here) have yet to figure out or choose to ignore is low carbing, especially Atkins, is not dead like the bread/milk, etc. industry is hoping. We just got smarter and realize that their crappy franken foods is not the way to do low carb and some low carb products are just regular products marketed with different labels or pictures and called low carb to make the so-called food industry rich. True low carbers come to understand to do their plans by the book, not by the food products.

I agree with lowcarbing4ever and everybody else - we don't need all those made up foods - and folks shouldn't jump to conclusions that a decline in the "low-carb" marketed products means a same decline in this way of eating. People correctly doing this diet know better.

Hopefully the folks that are getting the stuff for free don't end up like me when I've tried those low (net) carb bars, they sometimes do a number on my stomach BIG time.
