  • ok about eating less to lose weight ?non atkins

ok guys after all these years im still confused about the mechanism to lose weight ,im on extended induction and thats fine this post isnt really about atkins at all . but im still curious about how people in general are meant to lose weight [ im talking non atkins way of eating here ],on 1 hand they say u need to consume less calories then u use , but if thats the case where does 'starvation mode' come into the picture? now ive known people as well as myself who starting eating alot less calories then they would normaly eat and for eg ive lost about 30 kgs 2 times really without trying i just suddenly stopped eating very much food at all [combination of stress and being a bit depressed i think , relationships work etc] i just didnt have much of an appetite .and although i lost alot of fat i also lost sum of my natural muscle mass i had ,[plus getting older doesent help. the first time i lost about 30 kgs in all honesty i basically lived on chocalate and sugar, lollies and ice blocks etc not much real food didnt really drink water just soft drink ,now i no thats very bad and unhealthy and i didnt intend to do that it just happened for various reasons .so im not even sure of what im asking / saying in this post .probaly just that i no u can lose weight by eating less then your bmr needs to sustain life [ eg my bmr at the moment is 2900 calories cause im about 155 kg again] .but then we get told not to eat under your bmr cause starvation mode will stop u losing weight , its all still confusing and im 36 years old, anyway as i said im currently doing atkins and this post isnt really related to that woe i just wanted to get sum feedback /stories of people with any views on what i have said cheers and sorry for the very long post muz.

I think that is one of the reasons that exercise is so important. You can eat your bmr, which in theory should cause you to maintain, then add exercise to burn calories in order to lose.
I personally don't eat my bmr, but I eat enough that I don't go into starvation mode. I do as Dr. Atkins says in DANDR, I eat when I am hungry & stop when I am not hungry anymore - for me, that is less calories than my bmr, most days.
