Re: non-Atkins FIL keeps eating our Atkins food!

Hi everyone, thanks for your responses. My hubby and I & in-laws live in the same house. I don't think it is healthy for a non-atkins person to eat high-fat foods if they eat high-carbs...that is a dangerous combo IMO. He would never give up carbs. If he went on atkins too, I'd be cool beans. He and my hub can buy any pre-prepared food from the grocery store, whereas I make a lot of my atkins foods from scratch.

I don't cook for the entire family...MIL cooks for hubby and FIL; I cook for MIL and I. We have separate menus.

I appreciate the advice too on labelling foods...I've started doing that. JulieB, I really like the idea of labelling meal/day, I think that will work well!

    Thanks again everyone.

I agree with you about a high carb person who is also eating a high fat diet---dangerous combination. Tell him that. High carb/high fat is a bad combo for your health: that's what the "fast food diet" is---high carb and high fat. If he insists on eating the high fat foods, then he will need to cut down the high carbs in his life. Period. If he does not choose to do this, then tell him that you will not be responsible for any health problems he will have, since you have warned him.

Frankly, I think he is only doing that to sabotage your weight loss: eating your food makes it difficult for you to do your diet properly and that will prohibit you from being successful. His behavior is spiteful and meant to exert control over you. See if you go off your silly diet and start eating the "normal" food he eats, there won't be anymore conflict in the house because he won't be eating your diet food.

Sure there is a possibility that he really wants to go on Atkins with you, but I don't think that is the case, particularly if he chooses to continue eating your food inspite of knowing the risks.

From the additional information (he's eating the high-fat foods, not necessarily tucking into the veggie dishes), that certainly could be sabotage. It could also be a demonstration of complete disregard for those in the household who are following this WOE. It could also be a very benign example of FIL eating what looks good to him when he visits the fridge, without stopping and thinking why certain foods are in the fridge.

If sabotage - perhaps the likelier target is his own wife. She mentioned that she cooks for her MIL and herself (and her MIL cooks for her husband and FIL), so I assume that her MIL is following this WOE with her. In any case, the target will need to address this issue. If the target is her MIL, then MIL would need to immediately address this with her FIL. If she (jcapulet) is the target, then she (with the support of her husband and MIL) should address this.

If disregard or plain old "Sorry, I was just eating what looked good!"- then I would definitely try labeling, and immediately address it if FIL keeps dipping into the clearly-labeled food.
