    Hi Everyone

I'm new to this site and fairly new to Atkins.

Started induction on 7th November, felt awful through the first few days but stuck to it and then on day 5 suddenly felt fantastic. Slipped up BADLY a couple of times in the second week (couldn't resist some chips!).

Weighed myself at the end of the two weeks and only managed to shift 1kg (2.2lbs) but I was convinced I had lost more as I've basically almost dropped a dress size - my jeans and work trousers are now hanging off me!

I was quite gutted at the small loss but found this forum extremely helpful and reassurring and where I would usually have given up I am even more determined to do it right and continue losing, even if it is at a slow pace.

This week I am drinking more water and cutting out the diet coke. I also have a feeling that I may have been eating too much cheese (was eating 3/4 babybels/cheesestrings a day for snacks). I had also been eating processed meats (like sandwich style stuff).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome Lou, glad you joined us its a great community.

I have that 'chip' monster too - always calling - always a struggle, but it gets easier every day.

My advice - measure. Take all your measurements and keep a journal. It's just as exciting to see these numbers going down as the scale.

    Good luck.

Lou, the best thing to do is get a copy of the book and read it as soon as you can. It will prevent you making mistakes that can cost you. Then, commit to doing this cheat free for three full months, regardless what the scale says, and no matter how many chips call. I guarantee you will be rewarded. You may find that after the first few months this plan is so rewarding you won't have a problem sticking with it. If you do slip, get right back on plan the very next meal. Don't let it snowball.

        Welcome Lou.
My best advice is like Jill says follow the induction rules to a T. They set you up for a good run on this program.
Eat clean = so not processed stuff.
        Drink clean water
And find out how to work through your cravings. With chips you could have a bit of pickle that may help or a couple of pork rinds (but do not overdo those as they are salty)
        Good luck this week too.

          Lou,
Way to go, you are on the right path. Getting started is one thing, but determination to stick to it is another. As you progress the chips will fall, trust me, it will get easier. Ditto on getting the book. It helps, it really helps and you can find so really good ideas how to get around the cravings.
Keep reading with the success, before and afters they will inspire you also.
Keep going and do your measuring, you will suprise yourself.

Thanks for all your comments and support.

I have borrowed the book from a work colleague and have been reading it (albeit slowly). I don't have a very good attention span and it all looks so daunting! But I will read a bit more of it tonight!

I really must buy a tape measure! I keep forgetting when I go to the shops, it should be at the TOP of my shopping list!!

And although I felt rotten about not having lost as much as I'd hoped during induction I am continuing with it and realising that because I don't have so much to lose it is going to take time.

I will continue browsing through all the wonderful threads on here, they really are motivating and reassurring!

Cheese is limited to 3-4 oz per day. I don't know how much a Babybel cheese or a cheese string weighs... but you should know if you went over the daily limit.

There are other things you can snack on if you need a snack (avoid mindless snacking). You might want to check out Linda's site:

You really need your own book. I read DANDR several times and I still find it essential to have my own copy.

To get it cheap, you can order it from Amazon... or you can find used copies at thrift shops.

                Hi Lou
Welcome to our international ADBB family

As Georgiana said, do try to get your own copy of DANDR to keep. I see them at most charity shops, if not on the shelves then in their 'dead box' into which they dump many of the old diet books they don't think anyone would be interested in buying - ask the staff if you can't spot the orange-y cover
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Just wanted to welcome you to the boards Lou and wish you well. I personally don't find the scale to be my very good friend at all. When my scale broke several weeks ago I resolved not to replace it. LOL Instead I measure myself, and the results are much more pleasing. As you said, your clothes are hanging off of you now, right? Celebrate!!! Don't be a slave to the numbers showing on the scale. They LIE. LOL xoxox
