The best abdominal exercises are... bicycle crunches (lie flat back on the floor, hands behind neck, right elbow to left knee, left elbow to right knee, repeat)... balance ball crunches (lie back down on the balance ball, crunch holding head as if a string were pulling your chin to the ceiling)... and if your gym has a captain's chair it's the very best. It's the one you brace your forearms on bars that resemble the arms of a chair, except there's no seat. Your body dangles like that and you pull your knees up to crunch the abs. It's tough but the most effective.
Try those bicycle crunches though, start slow and work up. The abs are the quickest to go flabby and the quickest to recover once you start an exercise regimen.
