  • remind me please

    that my weight is going to fluctuate for days.

    I am frustrated today since the scale is up again to 143.60
    Monday: 142.60
    Sunday 142.40
    Saturday 142.40
    Friday 143.00

    This is the 3rd day in a row I've been the same or gone up. This isn't normal for me, usually I would see a decrease by day 3. What else could it be, not drinking enough water?

    I know Sunday was a debacle with the sugar covered ribs and then i ate diabetic yogurt and then sf soymilk. I know it wasn't allowed but could that really cause me to gain weight?

    I haven't been actually counting calories but I don't think I take in more than 1500 a day. I had a professional test that said my resting metablic rate was 1425 calories a day.

    Need some insight although I know it could be a variety of reasons. I was about to give up this morning and then I thought better of it, since 143.6 is better than the 147.40 I started and the 150 I was just at a few weeks ago.

    Your weight is going to fluctuate, so I recommend you do not weigh every day, its just a way to stress yourself! I only weigh once a week and sometimes I don't see a change in that number, but it's just that a number! Don't get discouraged, if I got discouraged every time I didn't see a loss I would have given up months ago, sometimes you just might not register a loss on the scale, that's all. Just keep pushing forward Eventually you will lose and remember to keep track of your measurements as well! Stay strong!!!

      Yes. If you have an intolerance to those foods, it might be just water weight.

      But the truth is, if you keep eating things that are not on plan, then chances are this isn't going to work.

      Those are just the calories your body needs to support basic functions, like breathing, heart beat, temperature regulation, etc. If you "move", you will burn more... and less than 1500 might not be enough food for you.

      If you enter your foods in FitDay, you can also check where you stand with your vitamins and minerals. Being deficient in some nutrients can interfere with weight loss.

        YOUR WEIGHT WILL FLUCTUATE---That's why you are not supposed to weigh every day. What does it matter if you go up and down Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc....there are so many factors to influence what the scale is going to say.

        It is a long term goal, so why drive yourself crazy pondering why the scale went up or down 1/2#?????

        Use your energy for something more productive like a new veggie recipe or a new exercise. If you are doing the plan correctly, your daily weight is really not too important. You can go for weeks and not lose, and there can be no explanation, so do yourself a favor and step away from the scale.

          I removed the scale so it's not readily available. But my pee sticks are still registering Ketosis so I didn't understand it.

          I did a lot of research shortly ago and I guess if you don't drink enough water on Atkins your body will store it. I only drank 66 oz Sunday and Monday. I've had over 80 oz so far today.

          The scale is away!

            That's no guarantee that 1) you're doing Atkins properly

            2) you'll lose weight.

              I think I saw you say in a post that a person close to goal could get away with not following the rules because they had less to lose. For many of us (certainly for me) it is the opposite. The closer I came to goal the more stringent I had to be. It is hard to lose those last pounds. I suggest just saddling in there and be a bit patient. And of course I would suggest following the rules to a T but you know that already

                Good job on putting the scale away Don't let it rule you And as for the pee stick thing I have personally never used them, I think it is a personal preference really, but it would just be another thing to drive me batty Just hang in there!

                  good job putting the scales away. what did the tapemeasure say today?

                  if you really want to see weight fluctuate
                  1)get your scale out again before you go to bed and weigh.
                  2)weigh again first thing in the am
                  3)after you peeweigh again.

                  bet you lost wweight magically while you were alseep and again after your peed.
                  if your bowels moved too you lost weight too.

                  now you know your weight will fluctuate even just from minute to minute depending on how full your bladder and/or bowels are.

                  put the scales away again


                  Don't let the force of gravity upon your total body mass determine how you value the hard work you are doing qworking your atkins.

                  As you said you are smaller then you were before you started and you know you should be thinking about moving to premaintnenace any day now so you know you are close to Atkins goal weight.

                    Jaxmoma, you're too funny. You don't have that much to lose and you lost a half of a pound over three days (that's a pound a week) without being on Atkins'.

                    What do you want us to tell you?

                    Get the book, read it and then follow it. If you're not losing weight after a month of doing DANDR, you may have an issue and someone here will be able to help you figure out why.

                    Otherwise, be happy that you went off plan and still lost weight.

                      Did the measurements yesterday, I have them just haven't compared them since the originals are stored in a wii fit game I have.

                      I think I know what the problem is, bowels have not moved, I know TMI but just realized that. Not getting enough fiber but I limited my cheese to 3 oz a day.

                      BTW I have been trying really hard to be on Atkins induction so please don't say I have not. Sunday was just crap and I posted about it while discussing green beans.

                      Hmmmm maybe I just need to move up to OWL, I was trying hard to weight till Friday. What's 2 days?

                        liv, sorry i seemed to skim over your post. please read above i have been trying extremely hard but do i truely believe anyone who significantly reduces their carbs will lose weight, it just does not have to be the atkins way. will it work? i don't know, depends on the individual. but again, i have been trying and why i was so upset sunday with my husband putting brown sugar on the dang ribs. last time i let him cook me something

                        i guess i have a very distorted image of my body because when i see it i see lots of cellulite that are disgusting so i don't consider myself close to my goal weight. i understand i have a lot less to lose than others. when i started my bmi was on the cusp of overweight so i feel in order to get rid of additional fat deposits

                          Jax, I only weigh once a week. There are many members who weigh everyday and are OK with that, but I only averaged a loss of between 1 and 2 pounds a week (and I went from 187 to 125, so had a lot of weight to lose)... that meant that sometimes I lost 2 pounds in a week, most times I lost 1 pound, and there were some weeks that I didn't lose any. Our body weight fluctuates so much for lots of different reasons, and watching that one or two pounds bounce back and forth all week would drive me batty! By weighing once a week, it was, what it was... I could get excited over a pound loss for the week, as long as I didn't ride the rollercoaster all week.

                          I've found that doing Atkins has a LOT to do with where your head is at... meaning, once I finally accepted that this way of eating is for life and not a race or just a means to lose weight, I was able to loosen up and just live my life without anxiety. It helps to realize that the weight will not come off in a linear fashion... and the scale can be a big 'ole liar sometimes! When I workout extra-hard or change my exercise routine, my muscles will retain water and show as pounds on the scale. However, my clothes would be getting too big for me. So you can't always trust the scale. My favorite way to judge fat loss is to keep a pair of jeans that are too tight, and try them on every couple of weeks. What a boost to watch something I couldn't button, become so big that it had to be put into the giveaway box!

                          Personally, I would go ahead and move to OWL. I've known many people whose losses picked up (myself, included), once they added some veggie carbs.

                            That's true.

                            I think you need to decide if you're going to do Atkins or "low carb".

                            And about Sunday ... well, if it was "crap", then why do you expect different results?

                            And rather than say you won't eat anything your husband cooks, why don't you help him cook "your" way?

                              LOL the measurements said I gained in my hips and waist and lost in my thighs. HA HA HA. I must have done them wrong last month. I re-measured using workout guidelines and with my husbands help. I knew they were wrong because I wore a pair of pants yesterday to work I had not been able to wear for weeks because they were too tight. Yesterday they were loose on me, esp in the waist and thighs.

                              Mitzi thanks for reminding me again. I am so anxiety ridden, everyone who knows me I am and tells me to get meds...no way. So thruthfully,I write on my calendar what weight I want to be by a certain date. Today's goal was to be at 141.80 and it wasn't so and I was so disappointed because of that and it was up from previous days. I have a very neurotic addiction to scale numbers.

                              So my final questions for today:
                              Can ketosticks give you a false positive?
                              And is the only way to lose weight in ketosis is doing atkins induction? I am not trying to be sarcastic I didn't know if there was a non atkins study that proved that.

                              My book is MIA at my house, looked all over tonight. Hoping my dad still has it since he borrowed it last year. It will be good reading for a 2 hour drive. I hope it gets me refocused on what I started last year, and I can speak more intelligently to you all.
