Has anyone ever used creatine while on Atkins diet? My husband wants to build muscle but apparently creatine is supposed to be used with juice or sugar. He has had problems with heart palpitations and has to avoid high spikes in blood sugar.

Re: Creatine
Try "Kre-Alkalyn," which is a buffered form of Creatine. It requires about 1/10 of the dosage of regular Creatine and you do not need to consume it will sugar.
Kre-Alkalyn is avaible all over the web and at most supplement store. I buy mine at vitacost.com for about $26 for a two-month supply. If you decide to buy there, check retailmenot.com for online coupons which are usually available for vitacost.6'1" 282/239/199

Re: Creatine
Maryannie,
It has worked for me -- better than normal creatine. It really has helped with both muscle growth and with strenght.
It does not require any sugar at all. Keep in mind that Kre-Alkalyn is creatine; it's simply pH buffered to improve absorption (that's why you don't need the sugar).
I take two tablets immediately before lifting and two immediately afterwards. That seems to be a good dose for a big guy like me; I imagine females could (should?) take less.
There's no caffeine in it.
The key to taking any form of creatine is to make sure you well hydrated. There is a risk of dehydration when taking creatine. So, whoever is taking it should be drink plenty of fluids and watch out for the heat and the sun.6'1" 282/239/199

Re: Creatine
If you husband has a problem with heart palpitations, it's in his best interest to consult with a physician before beginning any type of exercise program. this includes taking any supplements----you don't want him to take or do anything that will cause stress on his heart.Originally posted by maryannie View PostHas anyone ever used creatine while on Atkins diet? If he can't do anything that makes his heart race, you might want to have him re-evaluated by a physician.Originally posted by maryannie View Postwell he has been working out for 8 mo. Re: Creatine
the juice or sugar info has been a misinterpretation of the acid reacts with creatine so instead of using orange juice or another citric acid drink grape juice was recommneded as it isn't acidic. SOme folk thought it was because sugar was needed but it isn't.
Why would you want to make fake muscle growth with creatine? all it is is water swelling the tissues because of the creatine's zest for hydration. it can even suck the fluids from ajoining tissues. If you stop using it your muscles will shrink back to thier normal size.
Gerald maybe you should read the orginal post by your DW as she stated you have a heart issue not you don't want to be jumpy from caffeine.by the book atkinseer

Re: Creatine
Apology accepted Gerard.
You have to remember, that this is a support board and no one here as far as I know is a physician. But we want you to be healthy while doing Atkins.
2Big: that's interesting about creatine and how it causes muscle growth through, essentially, water retention.~Megs~

Re: Creatine
yep the creatine is sucked up into the muscles cells to provide creatine phosphate for replacing the phosphate busted loose during the anerobic phosphogen energy system.
that molecule is a very water loving molecule and that is why college atheltes who believe if a little is good more is better cramp up so bad during their first ball game using it.
And since it gets used up and the muscles tissue goes back to nonswollen once you stop you have to "eat" a suplly for life to keep your fake muscle gains.by the book atkinseer
