What is your opinion on cooking with wine or maybe having a small glass (4oz) with dinner? Red wine appears to only have about 2g, but I am not sure if it's allowed. Thoughts?

Re: Wine?
The problem with alcohol is that its stops the fat burning and starts burning off the alcohol in your system. Once its burned off then it goes back to fat burning. Semi derails your efforts. So its a toss up. Cooking with wine is another thing, I think the alcohol burns off in the cooking process so that wouldn't be an issue, but since wine isn't on the acceptable list, I would think it would come up later. Re: Wine?
It's not too far to the alcohol rung. Safest to wait for that.
Re cooking with wine... I found the best substitute was cooking with very diluted wine vinegar... just about a tablespoon of vinegar in half a glass of water... until it tastes like a very very dry wine. For some reason, this works better than adding the vinegar neat to foods. Don't forget to count the carbs in the vinegar though. Before and after:

Re: Wine?
My question is not really related to wine consumption, but what happens with the wine in the body is a good example. I know that consumed alcohol is used as fuel in the body and therefore fat in the body is not used as fuel.
My question is this: Why is the fat we consume on this diet not used as fuel? It seems to me that it would be less work for the body to use consumed fat rather that break down what is in the body?
Just curious. Should I post this question somewhere else?

Fat is used as fuel.
It's just that if the body has alcohol available, it uses that first.
So ... until your body gets rid of the alcohol, fat isn't being used as fuel.J.

Re: Wine?
I guess what I mean is - When we are eating such a high percentage of fat why doesnt the body just use that for fuel? I'm following the diet. I think its great! I would just like to understand the mechanics a little better. The book doesn't explain my question.
As far as alcohol - i know. The breakdown products of alcohol increases NADH which inhibits the oxidation of fat in the liver.

Because unless you are gorging, you are not eating enough fat, in calories, to provide your body with all the fuel it needs. When we are eating such a high percentage of fat why doesnt the body just use that for fuel?"Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."
