  • Wanting something to eat after 1 hour of eating...

I've been trying to "emotionally" get in touch with myself and stop binge eating and falling off the wagon so often. In the past couple of days I have realized about 45 minutes to 1 hour after eating, I want something to eat (usually sweet something).

B- 2 fried eggs in EVOO, 1/2 of a chicken leg and 1/2 cup of greenbeans left from last nights dinner (cooked the chicken leg with greenbeans in EVOO and a small onion. 1 oz of cream cheese.

I felt totally satisfied after eating and even when I wanted something sweet I was still satisfied, but the craving is getting under my skin!!!

    Any suggestions?
    ~Amanda

Drink water when you're feeling a craving, and take care of your hunger with boiled eggs. That's worked for me.

Maybe try one of those supplements that Atkins suggests in his book to use if you crave sweet. I have seen some people here swear it works.

A dill pickle spear can work wonders on squashing a sweet craving. Maybe try that next time until the cravings die out completely. The mental cravings are harder to get over than the physical ones but you can do it.

I guess that is what I'm wanting to know is if it is just a MENTAL thing. As I said I'm a major binge/sweet food junky. I have lost weight with Atkins, but that is through many, many times falling off. I guess that is what I needed to hear is nothing physically is wrong, just need more mental work.

Thanks everyone for such quick reply. I also take the L-glutamine 5g-10g a day, but that just reminds me I didn't take it this morning! Mental Note

Or do the 2Big Cravings Crusher: eat a jalapeno or serrano chile pepper whenever a sweet craving arises.

But good for you that you have recognized this craving and are developing strategies to combat it.

              It's certainly a habit.

You're used to having something sweet after a meal, right?

Me ... it was low fat ice cream. Thought I had to have something cold after dinner.

Once I broke the habit ... I was good.

              Doesn't mean that I don't still "want" ... but I've learned that it's just a "want".

it could be a trigger from a food you are consuming so take careful notes and answer the Ws who what when where why and how you feel before during and after you eat.

it could be a too low protein intake too at that meal. you could figure it out if you added an ounce more of a protein food to your meal and see if the feeling is as strong 45 min later.

another issue could be the sweet taste of the cream cheese if you are eaitng it plain is triggerring a brain ordered insulin increase which is dropping your blood glucose level since sugar isn't comming.
