  • Not a believer yet-all the fat you can eat!!

You can really lose weight by eating this way?!?!? Eating so much!! It's unbelievable!!

I have lost weight three ways before, but never like this where you eat so much food, and fat, albeit healthy fat.

I've done the traditional exercise and eat normal portions and also low calorie medically supervised diets and the quick diet pill/diet shake route.

The easiest was the low calorie diet...as far as losing. That was also the easiest to regain. I want to stop the YoYo problem.

I'm game to try Atkins and tomorrow is my 2nd day. I'm a skeptic but I did all my research, read the new book, planned my food and I'm ready to drop the fat off my body! I'm a little nervous, though! Hope this works!

    Welcome to our ADBB family

I am glad you did your research before starting

Actually, contrary to what the media tends to think, Atkins is not 'eat all the fat you can eat' but 'eat as much high fat/medium protein/low carb foods as your body needs'.

So eat when hungry and stop when you are no longer hungry, putting anything left on your plate away until you are hungry again. So some days you will not eat as much as others, depending on what your body 'asks' you for.

And don't forget to include exercise in to your daily routine.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I think Elizellen hit the nail on the head with this. Your body will tell you what it needs. Some days I snack, others I don't, some days I have 3 eggs for breakfast, some days 2 and I'm full. I finally know how to listen to my body.

I think most that don't understant Atkins assume it's a fat binge diet which it not true. If you read the book you should know it's not a eat all the fat you can diet. It's a balance of healthy fats, veggie carbs and proteins.

Yes, I am learning now that I am not 240lbs anymore but 180 ..that I have to eat less than I did when I began Atkins in 2004. Let your body tell you how much to eat and when. Don't eat till your stuffed just satisfied and drink plenty of water (struggling with that) and plan ahead.

After years of being told that "eating fat makes you fat!" and you'll die a horrible, greasy death if you eat fat, it's hard to get into your head that eating fat is the key to losing weight on Atkins.

However.....don't get into the mindset that you can eat fat with abandon and still lose weight. Because if you overeat even legal foods on Atkins, your weight loss may stall or you may gain weight.

the key here is moderation. You don't need to eat a tub of butter or drink a liter of olive oil on Atkins, but rather, an addition of 1 to 2 tablespoons of butter or olive oil to your veggies is what is typically added to Atkins.

Moreover, on Atkins you eat the real food, not low fat or no fat imposters. But the real stuff, which is healthier because you aren't exposing your body to additives and chemicals that are designed to give you all the qualities of fat.

In fact, this is one of the reasons why I chose to go on Atkins. I could finally eat real cheese (not the low fat substitutes), I could eat real butter (not butter flavored margarine), I could eat real meats. Real, natural foods my low fat/no fat diets disallowed because they weren't healthy.

Good luck on your Atkins. If you need to have your menues reviewed, don't hesitate to post them in the Review My Menu forum.

                            Thanks!

Thanks for the advice and tips and warm welcome! Is it okay if I'm a member here and following the NEW book? I hope so!

I understand what you all are saying about enough fat to feel satiated...it is just WEIRD to look at these foods and NOT think that I shouldn't be eating full fat sour cream and cheese!!!

I really feel good today. No big issues with dizziness or any stomach issues today!

                            Thanks again!

I don't really know what the differences are... I really want to get the new one just to compare.. but I can tell you that it's a good idea to get the 2002 edition.. they're dirt cheap on ebay....

.. I can tell you that the 2002 edition is the one that's followed here.. there's all kinds of links to the important stuff.. but for under $5 on ebay.. it's a good deal..and wouldn't hurt to have both..
