  • Measuring cooking oil

Hello! I would just like to know if anyone has any input on how to measure how much vegetable oil I am actually eating. When I cook with a pan, I usually drop a tablespoon of veg oil in the pan. After cooking ground beef, I usually scrape the whole pan onto my plate, but for bacon and omelettes, i just scoop the egg/meat onto my plate and dump the leftover oil.
Should I count the tablespoon as whole for the beef and maybe partially for the bacon/eggs? Or should I count it as a full tablespoon no matter what? Does the food absorb all the oil usually, or is any burned away during cooking? I realise it's hard to know specifically how much I dump/eat, but any estimates?

I never measure that. If I add it to a recipe, then it gets measured.

Thanks for the promt reply! I'm sorry, I didn't 100% understand the comment. So you think I shouldn't really measure veg oil unless i pour it directly onto my plate of food?

I count & measure the fat that I cook in (all of it), just to be safe.

It is up to you. I don't personally measure fat or calories. So I am not too concerned. I know i have to eat plenty of fat and I do.

If you really wanted to know you could measure how much fat you discard and then deduct that from what you added. I know some people do that.

If you cook ground beef you do not really have to add fat btw.

What I meant was ... I don't try to figure out how much, for example, butter got absorbed by the steak ... I don't even measure the butter I throw in the pan.

If I'm adding oil to a recipe, then I would know.

Yes, you would count it towards your daily intake ... as long as you know how much you're really getting.

Okay, thanks everybody! I just wanted to know because I am using so much of it and while I'm not overly concerned about specific caloric intake, it does have such a high amount that if I cook a lot ina certain day, it coculd easily add up to 500+ calories a day, and I don't want to go completely all out with my calories, so while I don't count meticulously, I just like to be aware.
                Thanks all

I used to do that when I started using fitday. I poured the leftover fat or oil from the pan into a small glass measuring pot which measures from a few mils to 50 mls then deducted that from how much I had added to the pan.
Nowadays I just guess how much has been used.
