Re: eating out, logging & confused
I think it would be helpful the first little bit to eat at home just so that you can weigh or measure your carb items and get used to portion sizes. Get used to reading labels to learn about all the sources of hidden carbs. The world of eating out is not easy. In my personal (not based on any research) opinion frequent restaurant meals are a source of obesity because people do not think about what they eat and how much they eat.
This is a new skill to learn in your quest to regain thinness. Good luck

Re: eating out, logging & confused
stick with the basics
steak, chicken breast grilled
salmon, shrimp, pork chops
stay away from the sauces until you know which ones you can have. or ask for a side of melted butter (very yummy for steak dipping)
a salad with ranch on the side, or italian
cobb salad
cheese platter, but stick to your 4 oz
remember to ask for double veggies so you're not tempted to eat the starch they usually give you
do your best guess if the restaurant you go to does not have an online nutritional guide. take it as it is and jot it down in fit day. you should be fine once you get the hang of it.
