  • fat/protein/carb ratio

    Hello,
I want to know the fat/protein/carb ratio. I have tried doing Induction and it hasn't worked so now I'm also counting calories and trying to do this ratio thing. I'm using fitday and aiming for about 1400 calories. I hear the ratio should be 65/30/5. However, is that 5% only for net carbs? cos there's no way I can get it down that low with fibre included in the count.

As I told you in your other thread, we can take a look at one or two of your menus if you include amounts and net carbs.

Unless you are very small already, 1400 calories might mean you're undereating... and that could interfere with your weight loss.

Don't obsess over ratios... they are just rough numbers. If they were essential, Dr. Atkins would have told us about them in DANDR.

How many net carbs are you consuming?

You can get a link that will allow others to see your actual fitday numbers to save spending time posting details here.

Just go to the 'profile' tab once you have logged into your account and scroll down to the bit at the bottom where you can make your journal public and follow the instructions.

You will be given a link you can post here.

It will end something like 'owner=yourname' and the whole link will look something like
      http://fitday.com/fitness/PublicJournals.html?Owner=*********

Of course the last bit where I have used ****** will give your own name)

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

It is not net carbs, since in the US carbohydrates are determined by difference and dietary fiber also contributes with calories to a food's total energy.

5% of 1400 cals would be 70 cals. since carbs are 4 cals per gram that would put you very close to 17.5 grams of carsb. Since we are supposed to eat the 3 cups of veggies for at least 1/2 our net carbs could easily eat your veggies your cheese and some eggs and be at 17.5. what you can't do is eat junk food and be at 17.5

what were you eating for your induction that causes your carb count to be so high?

This is true. To be perfectly accurate, calories contributed by fiber should be deducted from the total since fiber is not digested.

For example say 1600 calories are consumed. Total carbs are 35g(or 140 calories). 15g (or 60 calories) are fiber and 20g (or 80 calories) are net carbs. Doing the math, 35g of a 1600 calorie diet is 8.75%. 20g of a 1600 calorie diet is 5%. 20g of a 1540 calorie (1600-60 fiber calories) is 5.19%.

That is a little bit too much math for me. I feel my eyes glazing over - my brain going numb.
I use the number fitday spews out and am happy when it is ball park. Most important is to get plenty of veggie carbs in.

                  Re: fat/protein/carb ratio

I've actually just purchased the fitday PC version and it allows me to do 'net carbs'. When I've done a week with the new rules I'll post a menu. By having psyllium in the morning that would give me 4g carbs alone, even though it would give me 0 net carbs. That's why my count was so high
