  • What's your average weekly loss? / Is this achieveable?

    Hi, everyone! I'm new.. :P

I'm looking to switch from a VLCD (which deals with Ketosis, too) to Atkin's, & I was wondering what kind of losses I should expect. I know that everyone differs but I'd love to know what your average is.. just so I have a general idea.

I'm 5'6 & 195lb, my goal is to get to around 140lb by Sept. This is doable on a VLCD, but is it doable on Atkins? I hope it is! I've lost 15lb on my current diet, but it's taking a toll on my health & I'm going to switch over in a month (that's when all my food packs run out), so in the meantime I will be clueing up on Atkin's in hopes that it will work for me!

Thanks, hope you guys can help me out!

Which VLCD program are you currently on? I started low carbing a while back with packet food but had to quit when I developed severe sensitivities to soy and artificial sweeteners.

Anyways, it is probably advisable to check out your program's transition plan for easing back to real food and start following that. Leave out grains, starchy veg and other later rung Atkins foods. Although you can flip to Atkins when your packets run out, transitioning is much kinder to your body. Just a thought.

No idea what kind of losses you can expect. A lot may depend on how many carbs you are having now vs. what you will be having with Atkins. Also, remember that Atkins is a high fat diet and packet diets are usually low fat so I don't know how that factors in when you switch plans.

My average weekly loss has gradually gone down week-by-week throughout my journey (over a year now). The closer I get to goal, the slower the losses. If I had calculated the date "I should reach goal" based on my early averages, I would be very disappointed right now - instead I am happy that I have come so far (105 lbs), am learning how to eat properly so that I can maintain my losses for life and that I am still losing while eating a resonable & healthy diet that I find relatively easy to follow.

Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that I will be tapering off the packs in their own recommended way. I'm on Exante (which I think is a UK thing) right now, I will definitely transition sensibly! Thank you C:

You may want to put UK in the Location part (UserCP, Edit Your Details) as it will help others responding to your posts. Also, other Brits may know of specific products/markets that could be helpful.

You can't plan on a steady weight loss. I have been doing this for over 3 months and still not at goal and I am really "at goal"

It could take me another 4 weeks to lose 2 lbs and that would be great. Don't do a time table for your weight loss. You will tear your hair out and throw the scale when you get pauses. I know you don't believe me right now, come find me when it happens to you. Save yourself the frustration and realize this is lifetime, but just a few months.

the longer it takes to lose, the longer it will stay off
