WOW! there's a lot of junk on there....ok.. I won't call it junk exactly.. just not by the book induction foods....

    lots of convenience food...

I think the sentiment you'll find here is to follow the book... DANDR 2002 to the letter and not the website...

seems the atkins CORP. is really concerned with marketing products that might NOT be the best for us trying to lose weight.. but it sure helps them make money..

I hadn't looked at those menus until just now....

    wow!

    here's the page I saw:

    2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
    2-20-10 190.4 - new scale
    3-20-10 177.8 - 1 month
    5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!

Hold on... if there is a lot of junk there, then why would Dr Atkins keep referring to the Atkins website in DANDR?

Sure they are trying to sell their products, but if (I say if and only if) it eases you into Atkins, then why can we not eat the foods mentioned on their Induction menu?

I remember reading in DANDR that some people have great difficulty sticking to Induction and controlling their addictions and cravings, so Dr Atkins specifies reducing the amounts of the carbs one is addicted to, gradually.

that page is Atkins 2005, he's been dead a while.....remember?

I doubt he'd advocate all that 'convenience' food on a daily basis...

I"m just saying.. don't you think the website has probably CHANGED ?

and it's been pretty well documented that the convenience foods cause stalls in a huge number of people.... so why risk it?

if they work for you then fine... but from what I've read.. that's rare... and not on a consistent basis like these menus have them

          that's all....

one more thing.... as has been mentioned..... most of that stuff is really expensive to boot..

I'm becoming a REAL believer... just go by the book... for SURE he knew what was in there..

You're right Peytonn - there¨s a lot of commercialised Atkins products that I wouldn't buy - I mean have you checked the nutritional panel on it?

I bought 2-for-1 Atkins bars and was so shocked to find nothing looked natural or wholesome in the ingredients. They were all some sort of processed chemicals with "-ate" tacked onto them. When I tried them, they had a bitter aftertaste and tasted very artificial.

One of my colleagues bought the Atkins tomato sauce and she said it tasted foul - nothing like tomato sauce and more like a paste.

I have a question... I am still following Induction (extended) and I am typically well under 20 net carbs for the day. When adding 5 additional net carbs a day (per week) in OWL, how do you know you have reached your CCLL if you aren't eating your max. carbs allowed per day on a consistent basis?

I'm just curious about what the future holds...

                Hope this makes sense!

Eeeekk!!! I think that's a hard question for me as I'm still on extended Induction myself... but from the posts I've been reading and the mods' replies, they all say if you were on 15g carbs during Induction and move onto OWL, then you should try and stick to 20g whilst you're experimenting with the new food. You could either stay on a particular carb level whilst you're going through the rungs or stay on a rung whilst increasing the 5g carbs margin... but not increase 5g carbs AND move up a rung at the same time

I've read also that once you find your CCLL eg let's say it's 60g, you don't always have to eat 60g a day, you could eat less if you wanted to.

Dr. Atkins' thoughts about the bars, shakes, etc.

The patients who stayed, however, were extremely loyal to both atkins and his low-carb diet. But they had one major complaint: In a fast-paced world where everything was low in fat or high in carbohydrates or both, it was difficult to find something that they could eat on the run while still remaining on the low-carb program. They had no time to prepare their own snacks. Perhaps something like the low-fat energy bars sold in convenience stores would be great, only low-carb instead.

Atkins hesistated, and for a good reason. One of the things he constantly stressed with his patients was that they should eat foods that were as close to their natural state as possible, and for him, any kind of energy bar was as good as poison since it was clearly a processed food...

But his patients continued to beg him for something---"you sell the vitamins and other supplements, why not energy bars?" they reasoned--and so, with great reluctance, he gave in and developed not only an energy bar but also a low-carb shake that would make it easier for patients to keep to their Atkins programs.

"As long as you only use it for emergencies," he reminded them...

The energy bars and shakes were a necessary evil, there only because he thought his patients were too lazy to prepare the real kind of unprocessed foods that were the mainstay of his diet.

Weird - I hear what you guys are saying - but this seems to really be working for me - especially since I rarely break 10 carbs / day. RARELY.

I've lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks, and haven't weighed myself this week - that comes on Sunday, but I can already feel that I've lost more. Not that I'm out to lose that much (30 lbs total), but still, I think that's pretty good.

I don't really know if it would hurt right now to keep doing what I'm doing - especially since it is pretty effective for me, and I'm fairly active all day long. I guess if I stall out or something, that will be the first thing that I cut out.

Thanks again for all the input guys.
