thanks guys! you all look so great with your award! very nice!

i will head to the store again today. i found rutabagas at one but not the chayote. the other has chayote and no rutabagas. oy...........

i want to buy one for mom. she's never had it before and i was telling her about the "apple" pie recipe. maybe we can make a pie together. i am quite anxious to try it.

i have a question about food labels. i came across this while looking at the nutrional values on some frozen angus burgers.
these are premade patties with jalapeno and monterey pepperjack cheese right in the burger. the total carb count is 1 gram, as listed on the package. the dietary fiber is listed at 3 grams. of course, fit day wouldn't accept that.
anybody got any explanation on those numbers? i don't know if i have come across that in my label searches before.

If it was labelled in UK or Europe then the fibre would be listed separately from the other carbs in a different section of the label. Also it should be spelled the UK way as 'fibre' not 'fiber'.

Our labels mean 'net carbs after fibre has been deducted' when they say 'total carbs'.

When I enter UK food numbers into fitday I first enter the total carbs by adding them to the fibre carbs and typing the total into the 'total carbs box' then list the fibre carbs in the 'fiber carbs box' as well so fitday knows to net them.

that's pretty much what i did, eli. i just listed everything as it was on the label and fit day said the total carbs had to be equal or more than the dietary fiber.

very strange. i don't think i have encountered this since i started fit day.

you're welcome, sam. 2big and megs did the hard work though!

Many thanks to Jimmie 48, Megs and 2big for all the hard work they put into this. I really learned a lot from everyone's posts and questions.

The only recipe that I haven't cared for so far is the crustless quiche. I am a cheap old gal and Gruyere cheese is expensive. The vegetable taste is dominant and I don't want to pay that much for cheese and not be able to taste it. I am going to try it again with a different cheese and see how it tastes.

Atkins bake mix: I use soy flour but I did see a recipe for a home made version of Atkins bake mix. I will see if I can find it again.

Here it is. It was on About.com.

                        Atkins Bake Mix Clone Recipe

                        1 teaspoon salt
                        2 tablespoons Splenda

Try adding those fibre carbs to the other carb figure and see if it will accept the calories etc.

Yurmomonastick, try using a sharp cheddar cheese instead if you can't find a 'mature gouda'. Ordinary gouda has a fairly mild taste I find.

that's what i did eli. i just changed the carb count to match the dietary fiber and fit day accepted it. thanks for the hints!
btw, your booklet is in the mail. got it sent yesterday! i hope you get some good ideas out of it.

terry lynn, thanks for the recipe. i looked for atkins baking mix today and didn't see it. i looked high and low in that store. now.... if i can find the isolate, i'll be in business. they changed things all around in the store and i can't find anything!

i will hit the print button for sure. thank you!

i took a chayote over to mom. she looked at it very strangely. lol it's hard to believe that my mom, at 83 years old, has never seen a chayote. i am going to try the "apple" turnover/dumpling recipe i copied off.

i have come across this little question. just because we are winding this down doesn't mean we are all experts. so...................

I know we are suppose to try and eat 65% Fat and 30% Protein at each meal, but is it okay if we don't sometimes. Like for breakfast sometimes all I want is a peanut butter omelet or a mock danish or mock oatmeal. I mean sometimes I don't want a lot of protein or veggies at breakfast. So, I guess what I want to know is at the end of the day our % need to hit the mark and we should TRY to eat the right % with each meal, but if we don't it's no big deal.... Is it?
to be quite honest, i don't shoot for the percentage every meal. i don't really have meals. i eat a sandwich and some fruit, or a yogurt and a hamburger. i eat pepperoni with some cheese and peanuts. my big meal is when jack gets home. fish with cheese and veggies and salad or whatever. if my percentages come out close at the end of the day, i don't worry about it. maybe being at goal lets me do that but i really don't fret about the percentages.
