    It's up to you! From here, you have two options: you can stay on rung 1, adding carbs each week, until you find your CCLL; or you can alternate weeks of going up rungs and adding carbs. I did it the second way, and I'm glad I did--I've made it up to 85g and still losing weight...I can't imagine trying to eat 85g of veggies a day!!!

    If you choose to stay on rung 1 until you find your CCLL, I would recommend adding 5g every two weeks. I stay on a rung/carb level for at least 2 weeks to account for water/hormonal/exercise fluctuations. Now you're probably thinking, holy cow, I'm going to have to eat 5 heads of lettuce and 3 cans of pumpkin every day to get that many carbs...well I know that not2late found her CCLL this way by making lots of veggie sauces and purees to get her carbs in.

    If you do it the alternating way, you can either add 5g more carbs this next week, OR stay at your current carb level and go up a rung. Don't go up a rung and add carbs on the same weeks. I would suggest at least 2 weeks on each rung, preferably 4. Try foods that you've never eaten, will eat rarely, and even ones you think you hate. It's SOOOOOOOOO much easier to introduce foods on the appropriate rung, rather than introducing them 4 rungs later. I had never eaten cottage cheese in my life, but figured, what the heck?! I've eaten more new and STRANGE veggies than ever before, why not be bold and daring and try a new cheese? I thought I would hate it, but I LOVED it, and I eat it probably 4 or 5 times a week now! So long story short--try new foods. If you hate them, you never have to eat them again.

    Just make sure that you're patient with OWL. Add a new food only 3x the first week, and if it causes no problems like cravings/bloating/cramps/moodswings you can eat it daily thereafter.

      Alrighty then! I think I got it down packed...LOL! It's a little confusing but once I read it again, I got it. I will probably stay in each rung 2-3 weeks at a time adding the extra carbs the 3rd week and then moving up to the next the 4th. If not, I can always change it around. You've given me great ideas and alternates.

        Yup, that's the great thing about OWL--you can take it at your own speed, add carbs here, go up a rung there, and as long as you're following the basic rules and losing weight, you can really have some freedom with the plan! Oh, and one more thing--you DON'T have to eat foods from each rung every day! Let's say you've made it up to rung 6, and you're eating 40g per day. You eat your induction menu (veggies, protein, fats, 3 oz. cheese, special foods) for 20g carbs, and you have 20g to "play with". On one day you eat an extra serving of veggies (5g rung 1), a serving of nuts (5g rung 3), and 2 servings of strawberries (10g rung 4). The next day you eat your induction menu, but eat 2 servings of veggies (10g rung 1), a glass of wine (5g rung 5), and a small serving of black beans (5g rung 6). Don't feel that you have to eat from each rung every single day.

        Now that I'm at 85g, I have to "double-up" servings. In OWL, a serving is 5g, but since I eat so many carbs, I can "double" my servings and have 10g of something, which comes in handy for whole grains! I eat the induction menu, usually 1-2 servings from rung 1, 1-2 servings from rung 2, a serving from rung 3, 2 servings from rung 4, 2 servings from rung 6, 2 servings from rung 7, and maybe a serving from rung 9.

            Hey, no problem! I remember how darned confusing OWL was when I first started. I will say that I don't think the book explains it as clearly as it should--I learned this OWL info from not2late, validrouge, and sadie147. They're pros!

                hi all

                thanks for letting me jump in. my start weight will be 291.6 & my official weigh in day are mondays. i'll do my measurements on sunday night & update everything on mon when i weigh in. i would love to lose 15 pounds by july 4th but i'll shoot for 10lbs.

                      Hey guess what? Today I tried a size smaller pants that I had bought a month ago hoping to fit into them soon and sure enough. It feels great!

                        i did weigh this morning and im at 287.6, im happy abt that. i hv to still do my measurements so i'll post those later b/c i'll need help with the tape. im glad i joined here it's great to bond with others with the same goals as myself.

                            So today is my weigh in day.. and I have nothing to report. Well no change in weight any way....and I am not sure about inches either because I just bought a new (hopefully better) tape measure and it has completely different measurements from the last two times.

                            Oh well... I feel good... I look better... and I am happy =)

                            I will hopefully have a more accurate story to tell next monday.

                              You're right Julie, where is everyone that started this challenge? Like Cher, Joy, Hubby'sgirl, who else??

                              I'm so proud of myself Julie cuz tomorrow is my weigh in day and I had not weighed myself since I told you I wouldn't (last Wed). I've been doing good with the eating but haven't excercised in 4 days. I know........I feel terrible but it's TOM and bad cramping. Not as bad as it was in the past, but just can't get my self up on my eleptical these days.

                              Maybe I should wait until Friday(after TOM) and weigh myself then. What do you think?

                              Oh, and I wanted to share something with you all which I thought is really motivating. Yesterday I went to the dentist and I learned that the Dentist himself and most of his staff are on Atkins. They all have been very successful with it. The receptionist said she lost 85 lbs and kept it off 3 1/2 years already. WOW! Awesome right.

                                Elsy, that is so cool about your dentist and his staff!

                                If you don't want to weigh/measure during TOM, I can't blame you! I'm thinking about skipping this week, too, as TOM just showed up last night. It's a personal choice, and every single one of us would probably tell you to stay off the scale during TOM!

                                Great job on NOT weighing! )
