Well, maybe we were in the wrong part of town, but we went wandering the streets looking for a rollicking pub and they all seemed to be closed. Hence the watching of Sky1 in the evening (no excuse for Mr. Kipling, but we were young and in love so who cared!)
It's not just a canadian thing. We say that about a town where are the bars/restaurants and shops close up as soon as the sun goes down. My favorite thing to say is "What is there to do in this one horse town?"
LOL - yes. Like they rolled up the sidewalks and put them away since no one was using them. Heee. so, do the pubs normally close early or were we in the bad pub part of town?
That was 16 years ago. Now a days we have all day opening. And we also have 24 hour licsencing. Some establishments (just over 1000 in the uk) are legally allowed to be open all day and all night.

New Castle. We took the ferry from Bergen to New Castle to do the shopping tour at Metro Centre. Great fun! Discovered ASDA, which is Walmart in the States.
