  • Where's the best "warm" beaches around/outside the US territory?

We're already planning ahead for next year's vacation. We've spent a few years along the Pacific Coast that we're ready to branch out and visit tropical places for a family of 4.

Hubby and I are kicking around Cancun, Carribean, Jamaica, or even Hawaii, but we're just not sure where to begin in searching out where we want to go. We usually focus on history of certain areas, but for the most part we're REALLY looking forward to warm sandy beaches and snorkeling with the girls next year.

We've been told that traveling in June-Aug in some areas is relatively cheap, and yet weather is like rolling a dice...you never know what you're going to get.

    Any ideas???

Well, as a Floridian, I *may* be a bit biased, but I think the Gulf beaches are among the prettiest in the US...particularly around Anna Maria Island (close to Bradenton, FL) .. and Siesta Key (bit south of Bradenton) .. both on WEST COAST of Florida.

Outside of the Bahamas, I can't think of a prettier place.

Sounds like beautiful places, Betty. Thanks for the thoughts! I've actually been checking out some of the Gulf areas and Hawaii since this morning. The more I started to checking out the prices, the more hubby started really liking a vacation to Florida.

Bradenton looks like a beautiful place. We've never been down quite that far, I don't think. We've spent time along upper part of the gulf and gone over to cape canav a couple of times. We have friends and family between Alabama,Georgia, and Florida, so shaking up for a night or two with them would be really nice. I told hubby that'd we'd make up for what we would have spent on going to a remote island on gas and a rental car for a week...LOL.

He just said as long as I point him to the nearest fishing dock so he can go deep water fishing and white sandy beaches to park him on, anything will be fine...oh, and it has to fit in a reasonable budget.

It looks like we're liking the idea of Florida being next summer's getaway, but there's time to look and gather other ideas for "just in case".

Sounds like you're coming here then!! Fishing is great around these parts .. lots of great spots. Matter of fact, there was an article in a local newspaper this past weekend about a guy who caught .. are you ready for this .. a 233 pound Tarpon nearby to the Sunshine Skyway bridge (that connects St. Petersburg to the Bradenton area) .. they had a picture of the fish and him standing next to it .. he looked like a dwarf .. 233 POUNDS OF FISH!!! Bring alot of bait !!

Its really hard to beat the white sandy beach of Siesta Key (google it) and/or Anna Maria Island...

Apple, Betty is right. I love the beaches around the Gulf of Mexico. We usually go to Destin, Fort Walton, Panama City and in that area. It can get pricey, but you can find reasonable rates if you're willing to stay in places that aren't RIGHT on the ocean. Lots of fishing, and crystal blue/green waters with white sand. Beautiful. Weather is unpredictable however.

That's exactly the places hubby was talking about staying last night Mickkey...Panama City, Fort Walton area. He was also checking further in land like Lynn Haven and even further outskirts for motel/hotel prices. Even if the cost is a bit more on the beach, we both agree that's where we'd most likely spend our time. We'll see. Hubby's calling family later on this week to "just see" and put some feelers out...if we told them our plans for next year, they'd hunt us down like wild animals if we changed plans. Yep, we'll be keeping a close eye at the weather almanacs and stuff if we head to Florida...or any tropical paradise in the month of June (our ideal time to go).

Weather here in June is pretty good .. even with the afternoon thunderstorms, at least most of the day is sunny/pc. No hurricanes until August or Sept ..
