  • Buying a stove/oven

Tell me what you love and hate about yours. I know I want sefl cleaning. I am not sure about the smooth cook top as we cracked the one in the last house.
I have about $1000 for the stove and micro/hood combo

        Re: Buying a stove/oven

I live with my sister and recently got a new electric smooth top range. It is a total b----! If anything gets on it while cooking you have to wait until it totally cools down to do any wiping down. Even then there are spots that will not wipe off and you have to use a razor blade to get it off. That is the recommended way of doing it. And you have to be very careful and only scrape at a 30 degree angle. Sheesh!!! I wish we still had our old stove.

Lauren, I am in the market to by a new massive big telly. I know its not a cooker, but when I look to by a new electrical appliance I just look it up on the net and compare prices and functions that way.

how in the world did you crack your other one? doesn't it take quite a bit of force to do that?

I hate stovetop cooking on anything other than gas. It gives you so much more control. I like electric ovens though. Would love a self cleaner... never had one of those.

A flat top cooker would be awkward for a wok too, wouldn't it?

                  Re: Buying a stove/oven

I used to have a gas stove and now have elec. I have to agree with Sally, nothing cooks like a gas stove. I'd recommend using some of your budget money to convert if you can!

I have a plain white Kenmore stove, and i love it because it has very few features. I hate too many gadgets on my stove. and of course because of this it was cheap, i think I paid about 350.00 for it.

As for the microwave/fan. I just bought an over the range micro/fan combo and it was a great purchase! I love it. I got mine at home depot, it was the cheapest model, a Magic chef, and it's great. only 249.00. A friend bought a maytag one, cost them 600.00 and the only difference is theirs is black, mine white, and they're has 3 fan speeds, mine only has 2.

I couldnt live without the timer on my oven!!! lol everything would burn otherwise!! hehe!!

I have an electric oven, but a gas hob with 5 rings fitted into one of my worktops, its stainless steal - and easy to wipe clean.
