let's discuss books that we are reading, have read, or would like to read. since i'm a book addict myself
, i'll rattle off a few titles i've absorbed in the recent past and present.
***************************************
Nine Parts of Desire - by Geraldine Brooks. excellent review of women living in modern islamic countries.
Dombey and Son - by Charles Disckens. this has usurped Tale of Two Cities as my fave Dickens, yes, i said it. read it now!
The Golden Notebook - by Doris Lessing. must be good since it won the nobel prize for lit, right? WRONG. this book sucked so bad i ditched it after the second half.
A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khaled Hosseine. you will not be able to stop reading this. if you loved The Kite Runner (and who didn't??) you will adore this one.
Evolution for Everyone - by David Sloan Wilson. meh. it was ok, but if you have a biology background, you might find it a bit too pedantic.
The Thirteenth Tale - by Diane Setterfield. a lovely gothic mystery complete with estates, thunderstorms, fires, twins, and a batty recluse. very good first novel.
1984 - by George Orwell. this was great and i should have read it in high school rather than pass notes.
The Appeal - by John Grisham. this is classic formulaic Grisham, but it will still make your blood boil.
