  • Good Cheap Scanner

    Hi Geeks!

I do a lot with photos at work. I have a high end film scanner there. The photographers I work with shoot medium format or 100-50 speed 36mm slide film. Photos that are shot digitally are 8 mega-pixels. I think that is the reason I have no scanner at home.

So, being part of this board, among other reasons, I want to buy flatbead scanner for home. I could take, and have taken personal photos to work for scanning, but I don't like to. It means staying late and using company equipment for my stuff.

Now the question, what should I buy for scanning prints for 72-90 dpi display? There are a lot of cheap scanners out there, but which ones don't crap out and give good results?

Epson makes good quality scanners that are fairly cheap. Of course you know you pay for quality, so it really is gonna depend on how much resolution you want your photos to scan at. If there normal sized photos that you are going to be touching up then go with a 90 dpi. Thats a good mark to shoot at for a cheaper scanner.

I have an HP scanner ($100) that produces good images but I'm not really up on this technology to give you any advice.

I for one from walmart for about $80.. it's a 3 in one... copier, printer, scanner... I ditched my compaq flatbed for it.... (although it had a larger scanning surface, this one is fine for most all the stuff I need)

I don't even remember the name....I'll go look..

but I like it WAY better than my compaq stand alone scanner

the ink actually will probably cost more than the scanner...(when you have to buy refills.. .. it says it comes with both color and black)
