    Papajack!
Thank you soo much for those wonderful words!
When I read that you not only lost weight....but for the first time you were incontrol of what you eat my tears started to roll. I have been on Atkins since September and have lost over 60 lbs. Its soo amazing how easy it is if you follow Dr. Atkins plan.

    Thanks again,

Thanks for the wake up call.

I've lost weight before on Atkins and I've come back to it again and can't budge. I'll loose 3 lbs and 2 will come back 2 days later. As if they just stepped out of the room for a while. Before, I was able to consistently loose weight. What is the difference? I'll tell you: They didn't have all this low carb bull sh*t on the market that I've been buying and consuming thinking the whole time I am following the diet. I even bought a Deteco balance beam scale. You know, like the kind you find in doctor's offices? I bought it on Ebay for a great price if anyone wants to email me I'll give you the seller's ID.

Anyway, back on the track, I am having panic attacks about why this weight is not coming off. I exercise almost daily. I am tired all the time. I gave up caffeine and alcohol. I am pretty proud of the lack of booze. I've always been a boozer and at one time I think I had a real problem with the stuff but now I have no desire for it at all. One step at a time I guess.

I got my above mentioned new scale on Tuesday. I did the limited assembly and weighed in. I thought "This is great. No more silly up and down the scale stuff." The old scale I was using would show me 4 lbs heavier than the day before with no cheating and plenty of exercise. After surfing the web for 1/2 hour, I'd weigh again and be 2 lbs lighter. So that's why I bought the new scale. My husband got on the scale just for grins. I weighed 100 lbs exactly more than he does. :yikes I freaked. I layed in bed, holding my head. I finally told him what was bothering me. I asked him "Does that shock you?" He said no, he was no dummy, he had a good idea what I weighed and loves me regardless.

So now I will try it all again. This time, no lo-carb torillas, bread, Ben & Jerry's Ice cream (Although I might finish off the remainder of that tonight as a "Kiss it goodbye!" since I don't drink any more!) and back to meat, cheese, eggs, real cream (yeah!) and veggies.

Thanks all for being out here. You are an island oasis in a raging sea.

      God bless, Maria

I loved reading your story, thank you! I've been on this diet since June, 2003 and I have realized the trap for myself in low carb products. The truth be told what I have tried to do is to go back to my old ways by using low carb products and that just will not work! I can never eat that way again. I think it's an easy trap to fall into for many of us. Anyway, I gave up the products myself and I agree with you totally, stay away from them!

          Papajack,
Although I am just another group of words on a computer screen I am a real person too. I make jokes and laugh at my plight in life because I know who did this to me. I was responsible for every pound I stuffed into my mouth. It took me along time to realize I was feeding my emotions Gee I am from Texas a good Southern raised woman who can cook with the pros. I am a pecan pie perfectionist I made at least twelve every holiday. And I ate at least one by myself, the week before I decided I needed help I purchased a six pack of almond joy bars and ate every one by myself. I wanted to puke knowing I was the glutton. Nobody in my family was allowed to get fat I was in control and I was so out of control of my own fate. I know what you meant I felt every word. I came here feeling like a stupid cow. But now I know I am not alone. I know if I need someone to talk to I have an outlet. I am learning to love myself again. I guess that is where we all started. Thanks for letting me rant. Re: Free Advice (and worth every dime you spent on it)

I love this thread and reread it often. Papajack hasn't posted in awhile but I like to think that he is still lurking out there and if he is, hopefully he will see that we really miss him.
He is such an inspiration to this board.
Anyway, this is a little bump, cause maybe some of the new folks will find it as great as I do.
And Papajack, we miss you lots and lots.

I just read this thread and it was very inspirational to me as a newbie. Papajack is/was very eloquent.

Well Papajack, I read your post and cried. But that was a good thing! I can cry pretty easily when something moves me deeply and your post did. Plain honesty always does and you were such a gentleman about it. You should absolutely post more often. I am new here and thankful i found your post. Pamela
