  • Here again

I did Atkins about 2 years ago and lost 50lbs. I took a break from the lifestyle and ran amok. I've gained back all the weight and alot of my old frustrations. I have not had success restarting because the last time i did Atkins, my (usually normal ) cholesterol level went up, so I've been trying alternative diets with no luck. I've decided to restart again, but will try to focus on more lean protein and better fats. Any suggestions from those who've had a problem with their cholesterol levels would be a greatly appreciated.

how far into y9ur Atkins did your cholesterol go up? the natural response from the human body to any weight loss plan is to raise cholesertol levels. just seems docs only worry about Atkins so they don't test folk as often doing other plans and miss the initial increase.

it should come back down if your triglycerides and or your LDL was elevated. your HDL ( this is a good thing) will go up from the Atkins eating in OWl woth all the healthy nuts veggies and seeds, and the exercise part will also increase the HDL giving you a healthier ratio of total to HDL>

    Happy low carbing.

      Re: Here again

I think part of the problem was I stayed on Induction for 5 months without advancing to OWL. I exercised, took fish oil and flax seed without it making a change. I was lucky in that I had my levels checked before , during and after being on Atkins. I don't remeber the #'s because it has been awhile, but my LDl's went up initially, and stayed up until I quit .

my LDL went up then went down for almost 18 months but are back up again and my doc actually ask me when we discussed the blood test results if I had quit my Atkins to make them go up.

there are certain foods you can add like flax seed meal, soy, and many of the nuts to help lower your LDLs and raise your HDLs avoid the transfats andsome of the sat fats olive oil is very good at lowering LDL

Hi, Airad! how are you doing? Welcome home! Not everyone's into the extended induction thing. after 14-day induction, You might even try modified OWL which affords you the stringency of induction with the rotational experiemntation of OWL while keeping blood sugars in check.

Welcome. I have a cholesterol problem myself, but I have quit worring about those numbers after reading Dr Sears book on cardia health.
But ... there is nothing wrong with eating good fats. My bad Cholesterol was high, but the good cholesterol was higher and better.
Check out the Second TIme Around Club also. Full of supportive folks who had to do a little butt dusting after falling off the Atkins wagon.
Glad you remembered us and came back.
