Hi, I'm new to Atkins and new to the board. I've read the book and started induction 5 days ago.

The first two days I had the most awful headache, and I felt so tired, but happy to report that I'm feeling great now! I've had a 'clean' induction so far, although yesterday I bought an Atkins advantage bar and had that for a snack. I had been loosing weight, but nothing this morning when I weighed myself.

I thought that Atkins advantage bars were ok as only 2g of carbs. But I've read some posts that say otherwise. I'm a little confused!! I don't want to sabotage my own weight loss for the sake of a bar that was only o.k.!!

Also, I am sooooo thirsty! Is that normal? Good news is that I'm drinking what feels like gallons of water.

This is a great forum and I'm so pleased that I found it - quite by accident!

Oh, my stats - I'm female, 5'10 and I would like to loose around 50lbs........

Welcome Goddess! Glad you found us! Glad you now feel great after your bout of induction flu.
I'd avoid the bars, which are known to stall many many people.
Keep on drinking gallons... it's vital!
Also... have you considered the exercise part of Atkins? Another vital part of the plan.

      Happy low carbing

Welcome. Congratulations on your clean induction....I'm glad the headaches are gone and you are still going strong. I've talked to many people who used the bars and they seem to stall them. In my own experience, I do better by eating a real meal and doing exercise, drinking lots of water. I've never used them due to the fact that they do cause stalls.

We're very happy to have you join us. Become active with the people here, as the support is the best you'll find. Keep us posted on your progress!!

Great that you plan to start exercising Goddess! I was a non believer at the start...but had to admit I was wrong when I started and the losses picked up! It really works!

I'm going to start on treadmill. I have one at home, so I'm going to aim to walk/run 30 mins, moving on to 1 hour. Then I'll start on some weights. Thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep you all posted on how I go. I have to say on Day 6, I feel so much better. I woke up at 7am this morning full of energy! And as of this morning, my boyfriend has decided to join me and started his induction. It will make it so much easier to do this together.

Hi Goddess, welcome to the board!

Consensus around here is "Don't eat the bars"! It's a personal choice, but you're fooling yourself for a little treat if you believe they are really 2 carbs. Keep drinking your water!

HI Goddess, I would stay away from the bars too. I have looked at them and when I looked at the amount of carbs they have I said no way. Look at the start amount of carbs they have before they start subtracting stuff. They stall a lot of people. Good luck with the exercise. I got my family to join a gym with me. I had a set back with school, but I am looking forward to getting back to the gym next week.........Best wishes Dawn I.

                      Re: Newbie

Hi, welcome to the BB. Thanks for your comment about the bars. I bought two but haven't opened them. Now I probably won't for a while. I really want to proceed with caution. I have 35 lbs to lose and have lost 9 as of last Sunday...I weigh tomorrow so i am anxious to see how that goes. But after what I have read about the bars...I think I'll save them as a treat when I do reach my goal...of course they may get stale by then and i'll just chuck them...real food is more exciting anyway. I am experimenting a lot with new ways to fix things and love pork rinds. But I can't tell you how many of my family are grossed out by the fact that i am eating pork rinds and putting real cream in my two cups of decaf a day. I have stopped telling people that i am doing Atkins because they give me the look. I am so glad that i can asy it here loudly....I am doing Atkins, it's working and I LOVE it!!!! Hope to see you around!

                        Re: Newbie

Thanks guys and gals for the support, once again! I'm on day 7 of induction and cannot quite believe how easy its been and more importantly how great I feel. I weighed myself - couldn't help it! - and I'm down 4 lbs so far, so am really psyched about that in 1 week. I had hoped to loose 8lbs - 10lbs in induction, so hopefully I'm on track. I also got the ketosis strips and was delighted today to see that they are in purple.

DBF has started induction on Saturday, so although a few days behind me, its great having a partner in crime. Cooking sunday lunch today was so much easier when I didnt have to make potatos (my downfall) and not eat any!

As for the bars - they're history! Thanks for all the tips everyone. When I read the actual list of nutrinets in each bar, I cannot believe that they are selling them as only 2 carbs net. Either ways, I'd rather do without than ruin my chances.

I have one challenge coming my way - I am going to a charity lunch to one of the countries leading restaurants - its going to be course after course of probably carb loaded food. I'm determined though to avoid them, and only eat the food that I can.

Woo Hoo you've joined the no-bars club! I can't believe they sell them at 2 carbs either, i believe it's called "marketing" which targets us ultimate consumers!

I would advise you to eat a legal snack before you go to that event so you're semi-full. Chances are there will be something you can eat when the others do, but if the choices are slim and you've had a snack, you're good to go!

LOVE that DBF has joined you. The support is ideal!

That's awesome that DBF is on induction, too! That will make things a lot easier (cooking wise) and it will be nice to have someone so close to you for support!

Good luck at the "event". I go to a lot of lunch meetings and events too. My first trek out to one after I started induction was a bit scary...but it was over a week into induction and I had no desire or craving for carbs. I ate my meat and veggies and passed on the bread and dessert. I was so amazed at myself, I never thought I could ever turn down free food...but I did. Now since then it has been a cinch because I know I am capable of it. I suspect that having the support of this BB helped too. I was just a lurker at that time, but it was still encouragement. So, here's to you and I'm rooting for you on that day!! Think of me when you get there and then let me know how it went!
