  • New to this forum but not to Atkins

Hi everyone.! So glad to have found this bulletin board. I have been a member at another site since 2001 but find the "big brother" atmosphere there lately very unsettling. Many long time members have been banned. Not sure what the problem is. I'm just interested in being a part of a community of like minded people who support and inspire each other, and who like to share their experience and have fun.

Me in a nutshell--lost about 80 pounds initially on Atkins. Maintained the loss for 4 1/2 yrs. I quit smoking and my house burned down. Tried to eat my way through all that stress. Needless to say,it didn't work--lol. I regained about 60 pounds and have been half heartedly trying to lose again until this past September. I was driving to work, sarted having really bad chest pains, drove myself to the closest ER. Yep, I was having a heart attack. Had angioplasty and 2 stents put in. I recovered quickly from that mess and about a month later had a big G.I. bleed from the Plavix. I've recovered from that too. Since my heart attack I've lost about 18 pounds. I tried South Beach for awhile (to make my cardiologist happy ) but it just didn't work that well for me. I did lose alittle, got discouraged and gained it back.

Since December 18th I've been back on Atkins and feel fantastic. I'd forgotten how good it feels to be in ketosis.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all!

        Hi Teri, welcome to ADBB!

You have been through the ringer! Hopefully we can step in and take over for you in the support department. I think we're pretty good at it.

My grandmother has been having GI bleeding from Plavix too. She has been in the hospital over and over again for blood transfusions because they can't stop the bleeding. They're trying to control it by going in and doing some type of laser procedure on the areas to try to stop the ruptures. It's very scary, and they say she has to have 15 of these treatments. In the meantime, it's transfusions every couple weeks.

Wow!! Thanks you guys for the warm welcome. I really appreciate it!

Joy--I sure hope your grandma is feeling better and is healed soon. It's not a fun thing to go through.

Betty I was so happy to see you here. You're one of my heroes! You've inspired me so much I'm ramping up my walking program and have decided to give running a shot. I talked to my doctor the other day and he was all for it. I had to promise to go
s-l-o-w until I'm sure I can tolerate it, but that's ok. Slow works just fine for now. I'll prolly be bugging you with all kinds of questions.

                Thanks again everyone!
