  • Hello!

I am thrilled to have found this site! I was on Atkins in 2003 and successfully lost 40 pounds in three months, but was on induction the whole time. I fell back to my old eating habits and gained it all back.

I began Atkins again on April 2 and have lost 20 pounds this month. I am moving into OWL on Monday so that I can really make this a way of life this time around.

I was on YouTube last night looking for Low Carb cooking ideas when I came across Bowulf's great information which led me here.

This is an amazing resource and I look forward to becoming a part of this community.

    Ken

Hi there Ken! Welcome to ADBB. This is a great place for support and inspiration, I'm sure you'll find.
You're right, Kent's (Bowolf) videos are really inspiring. He's a true Atkins success story. And there are many... I'm sure you'll soon be one of them.

Btw... congrats on your losses so far, and on your decision to move to OWL. You'll find the extra food choices very welcome, and you still continue losing.

      Happy Atkineering.

        Re: Hello!

Thank you for the welcomes. I have to admit that I am nervous about moving into OWL. I know that I am addicted to carbs and have trouble with moderation. I guess the important thing is to move rung by rung slowly but surely.

              Re: Hello!

Hi ken! Wecome to ADBB! The thought to go through the rungs very slowly is an excellent idea. May I suggest adding foods even within the rungs one at a time and don't add another new food for about 3-4 days. Just to see if any of these foods cause cravings or trigger any kind of sesitivity?

For example. I am on rung 8. The starchy vegetables rung and have just started to add grains into my WOE. I had a whole grain lower carb bread in the morning over the last few days, and have noticed a marked increase in cravings. Even when I have starchy veggies often. They don't affect me the way bread does.... so no bread for a while until I can regain the control. I'll try again, but it may just be that I have a sensitivity to wheat. Also another food that poses a problem for me is citrus fruit. I added tangerines in rung 7 and what do you know? Migraines ike mad from the fruit! But no problem with apples or anything else.... just some info for a successful way of life!

Happy low carbing and welcome.... see yah around the board.

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

                  Re: Hello!

For my birthday my brother gave me a nutrition scale that will weight items, give the values, and record them! I plan to use this along with FitDay to ensure that I am staying within my carb allotment. We have made our shopping list for the week for tomorrow morning. I am planning exactly what veggies I will add and when this week.

                    Re: Hello!

I spent time this evening preparing my food for tomorrow, weighing it, and recording the carbs to ensure that I am right at 25 grams. One obesrvation was how much I was "overdoing" it with cheese. What I thought was 1oz is actually 2. It was interesting to see the size of foods.

I am upping my veggies this week on the first rung. I am including extra green pepper and some tomoato tomorrow. It was nice to have more options when shopping today.

                    Have a great week everyone!

                    Ken

                        Re: Hello!

I am reporting that I stayed on plan for my birthday yesterday. In the past I have used holidays and celebrations as reason to eat carbs. The only time I thought about sweats yesterday was when my 4 year old son asked why we didn't have a cake for daddy. I replied "because I wanted chicken instead" and gave him a bowl of ice cream.
