  • I've been lurking..

    Hello all,
I've been lurking around the boards for a while now. Finally decided to introduce myself. I'm Darci, I'm 29, married, mother of two and I work full time in a "desk" job.
I graduated high school at 105 lbs. I was a very thin girl; a combination of fantastic genes, soccer and gymnastics.
Two babies later I am 136 at 5'4. Now, don't hate on me because I'm not significantly overweight. Everyone has different expectations of themselves and how they think their body "should be. I'm not some headcase that thinks I'm fat. But when I look in the mirror I don't see the "right" person. I'm squishy and flabby and poochy...oh my! I have a goal weight of 115-118 which I don't think is too small. (I don't want to lose my boobs!)
I'm on day 11 of induction and have lost around 5 lbs. I originally expected it to be more based on other posts but then realized that I wasn't at the same starting point as others.
Lunch is difficult because I'm not a "bringer". And dinner is hard because my husband and children don't want "mock" mashed cauliflower potatos.
I love reading through the posts...what a great and supportive community! Just wanted to say "Hi."

Hi Darcy! When i started induction the first time i just cut out all the potatoe and rice including mock mashpotatoes. I had to come to terms that just because the family is eating it doesnt mean i have to. And you are right it doesnt matter HOW overweight you are if your not happy. You did the right thing coming here. The motivation from these people is fantastic. Keep up the good work and you will get it all off.

Welcome Darci! Nice to have you with us.

No... you won't get any flack here because you only have a small amount to lose. This isn't an "obese only" club. A lot, or a little makes no difference. The important thing is that you move towards better health, more energy and a "you" you like better.

It's good that you realise your losses will be slower than it is for those who have more to shed. But, if you do the plan right, in the long run you'll be a winner for sure.
If you want to speed things up a bit... extra exercise is the best way.

          Keep us posted!

Hi Darci! Yay, you delurked! 5 pounds is great so far.

How do you know your family won't like faux potatoes? The first time I served it, they didn't even know. Then I tried the faux potato salad on them and again, they didn't even know! Now, we eat lots of faux food!

Once you realize this is a way of eating for life, you will adjust. Over time you will be able to make any side dish you want for the family, and if it's carb laden, you will resist.

In the meantime, sounds like you're right on track.
