  • On it again

It seems like I go on atkins once a year then it kind of dwindles off for one reason or another, usually laziness or money. Right now I'm 6'2", 22, and about 305. My max was about 340 when I was 16. I've been on atkins for about 3 months now. I'm getting to the point where it's dwindling again. I started going mostly off the diet on weekends I stay away from sugar pretty much all of the time. I work out about 4 days a week after work for 10-15 minutes covering every muscle group. I was walking a couple times a week for 2 or 3 weeks but that stopped. Right now most days I'm around 50-100 carbs a day. I've lost 17 pounds since I started this time.

I don't know why I'm here, maybe for recipes or maybe encouragement. I don't even know if encouragement would help. I'd like to be thin but I love food and I love eating. I guess the reason I'm on atkins in the first place is to be more attractive but I guess right now I just don't care what people think. Some might think it's wrong to lose weight for someone else but I honestly don't care that I'm fat, I care that other people care that I'm fat.

That may be wrong but society has standards and I'd like to fit into those. I can't blame them, I have my own standards as well. Maybe not the same type of standards but on priciple it's the same. It's nice losing the weight but it's also nice to be able to go out to eat with my friends and not be limited as to what I'm going to eat (usually salad or chicken strips).

In a way I'm forcing myself to make this post otherwise I'll end up forgetting about the forum and eventually the diet. So! Does anyone have suggestions for an extreamly quick atkins-friendly breakfast?

    Re: On it again

Well, I must admit if Ben and Jerry's were diet food, i'd be a happy camper. But do you think that maybe you don't stick with it because you don't really care? I would think yo-yo dieting would be worse for you?
Anyway, as for a quick breakfast---they sell precooked bacon. Eggs take a minute. Can't get much faster unless you'd like to make yourself a bunch of mini quiches in advance and then just zap them! Hmmm....or coldcuts and raw veggies---that's fast
    Oh....and welcome!!

        Re: On it again

        I get it!

I'm not big on eggs. I was doing beef jerky and mixed nuts for about a week then got excessivly old. At one point I found like some atkins peta bread or something at Walmart. I'd make wraps with deli meat, lettus, and blue cheese dressing. It was pretty good, about 10 carbs all together and also quick. I haven't seen them since that one time though.

Can't tell where you're from, but Price Chopper and Stop & Shop grocery stores around here sell "Josephs reduced carb" oat bran flax pita bread. Each one is 10 carbs minus 5 fiber and amazingly enough, they taste good! they hold up fine for coldcut and veggie salads, but for mayo based (like tuna or egg) salad fillings, they disintergrate quickly. I cut them open, dry them in the oven, and make pizzas out of them

              Re: On it again

Fie, congratulations on the decision to come back. Believe me, I love food, too -- most of us here do. The beauty of Atkins is it allows us to get in control of it, rather than letting it control us. This is the first time in my life I've experieced that, and it's better than anything tastes. That said, I've struggled lately, but I keep coming back here because I know that long term, it's the best... no, the only... choice for me.

To really do this right, I recommend you get and read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition. You are only supposed to eat certain foods during the first two weeks of induction, and those don't include nuts or low-carb bread products. Often beef jerky, unless you've made it yourself, contains added sugar, so it's best to stay away from that, too. Check out the 14-day induction forum for legal meal ideas, and then look at the Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) thread for information about adding back in higher carb foods (things like nuts and low-carb pita bread) in the proper order....

              Best of luck to you!
