  • STAC - For realz this time, welcome me

hey everyone, I'm glad to find this resource

I had great success with the Atkins program starting around nov of 2003, I had been cruising around between 250-270 pounds depending on my level of activity since my sophomore year of college ( 1999 ). I'm 6'1" btw. My sleep apnea and appearance had gotten out of control, the biggest wake up calls for me I suppose were that i was having trouble finding clothing that fit me in regular stores, I was literally maxing out at an 18" neck, 44" pants, XL tshirts etc. I was inactive and had very poor habits, drinking gallons of beer, eating pizza by the pie, and gatorade by liter to cure hangovers, all in all, I was a mess. I came upon the diet through its popularity, and bought the book at wal-mart and followed it to a T. I bought the shakes by the case ( when walmart sold the 4-pack for $4 ) and started eating my way to better health. It was very easy for me, to be completely honest, because I worked in a restaurant as a bartender in a hotel, and had accesss to whatever gourmet meats/veggies etc I could ever want, I didn't even eat at home, and I had the money to eat out whenever I wanted. AND I LOVED THE FOOD, Bacon, eggs, turkey, chicken, mayo, steak, veggies, all my favorites, I never really loved carbs, they were just easy. The diet was a revelation!! I finally knew what "full" felt like.
Anyway........the weight fell off, just absolutely fell off me, we're talking 60 pounds in 3 months, I even cheated every now and then. The response was of course, great, female attention I hadn't known since college, admiration of my friends....It's really kind of sad when I think about how much more RESPECT I receieved as a slim man, how much more I was accepted. especially by family.....
Unfortunately for me, that time in my life I was also heavily involved with cocaine, still drinking ( just vodka w/ soda ), and poor decisions all around, I fell into a trap of thinking that I had "solved" my issues and ignored other fundamental problems
As you might expect, the weight came back, slowly, up and down, over 4 years....two months ago I saw the doctor for the first time in 3 years, and he scared the **** out of me, I had topped the scaled at 277, and was a hot mess, I didn't even know how bad it had gotten until I some friends had posted recent pictures of me.
Well I'm in a new place in my life, I've moved away ( 2000 miles ) from my old lifestyle, am older (29) and wiser and back on the wagon.....
I'm down to 255 after about two months, the weight coming off much more slowly this time, despite my inclusion of a serious exercise regimen
I hope that this is IT, because frankly......I need this in my life right now
    here's to some progress hopefully....
