  • My second time around

Hi, I joined a few months ago when I wanted to try to do Atkins for a second time.
The first time about 4 years ago,(I'm 39 now) I was weighing in at 305lbs. At 5'8" that's not too pretty. But I did it and lost 115lbs over the course of 8-10 months.

Now, a little over a year ago, I ended up cracking my knee cap in half and wearing a leg stabilizer for most of it. I'm back at 261lbs. Not happy but looking to restart Atkins tomorrow, just in time for an Easter weekend snowboarding trip to Vermont. Even though I'm condemned to wear hard shell knee pads, I'm trying to get my activity level back.

So I have about 14 days to try to drop as much as possible. I'm hoping at least 20lbs. Any suggestions? I know men tend to drop the weight fast, but any advice would be helpfull. Thanks.

    Re: My second time around

welcome snaplok -- glad to have you back with us! My best suggestions is just to do a clean induction foodwise, exercise as much as you can and drink at least 64 oz of water a day....

how much exercise are you allowed to do now? Walking is a great way to get some fresh air and see the sights...LOL - plus it's one of the easiest forms of exercise there is. There are plenty of challenges to join, they help keep you accountable to yourself and to the members of your challenge.

Don't skimp on your food thinking it will make you loose more weight faster, that doesn't work. I seem to do best when I have a small dish of veggies in the afternoon - I eat radishes off and on all day..they have so few carbs and offer so much crunch I don't miss some of the foods I ate before.

I wish you much luck in your journey. Keep induction clean & you'll be Mr. Dreamy before you know it!!

Thanks for the encouragement. Right now I'm able to do just about any type of exercise, thought my doctor would like me to stick with bike riding. But over the winter season I've done snowboarding, ice skating, and backpacking. Unfortunately not enough to drop any real weight but has kept my weight down. Any pain I have in my knee which is mild I think has more to do with the weight than the injury. So I do have to wear a knee pad. That in itself has been a task, finding on the fits properly.

        Welcome to the board, snaplok!

It sounds like you are recovering nicely from your injury, so you should have no problem with the exercise part of Atkins, and you've done the diet before so you already know pretty much what you need to do foodwise. So read the stickies drink your water and check out the recipe forum for great ideas to help keep you diet varied and interesting.
