  • Hello there! New to the board :)

heloo everyone, my name is katie and i am a 25/f from michigan. a little background on me, i tried the atkins diet about 6 years ago for about 3 weeks. i lost 20lbs, taking me from 180 to 160lbs, but it was so hard for me to stick to it, i quit and gained all the weight back and then some. i have been on medication for the last 8 years, and in that time i went from weighing 120lbs on my 5'5" frame to weighing 225lbs. i have recently gotten off all my medication and decided that it was time to lose all my medication weight. my eating habits also weren't the best, so a change in eating will complete the rest of my life change with the meds.

i have been lurking on this forum for the past month, reading posts and getting recipes, and i decided i am committed to changing my eating, so i want to be part of this forum

i started the atkins diet 5 weeks ago and have lost 21 pounds already. i am not doing it by the book, but what i am doing is working so far. i have been doing induction for two weeks at a time, then having a cheat day, then starting induction over for two weeks again, and so forth. for me, i am so dependent on carbs, having a cheat day makes the transition easier and, for me, sticking to this way more realistic. when i get closer to my goal weight i plan on following the system more closely. i even went on vacation for a week and ate whatever i wanted. i gained some weight back, but went back on induction when i got back 5 days ago, and have relost that weight plus a pound. i know this is not the ideal way to do it, but it is working for me so far. i plan to stay on induction for awhile cause i have so much weight to lose, and yes still have cheat days, and i will not feel bad about it

as of today, i have gone from 225lbs to 204lbs, my carb cravings are gone, my appetite is under control, and i actually find myself craving vegetables now, which has NEVER been the case my whole life. i feel so motivated and confident about myself too. i feel great.

sorry about the long post, but it is 5 weeks worth of stuff! i look forward to sharing my successes with all of you guys. and just being here and reading about all of yours gives me a lot of motivation and inspiration!

        Hello Katie :wave
        Welcome to ha

If you can manage to drop the 'cheat days' I am sure you will benefit more from this WOE.

Many of us have found that by not giving in to the cravings for a few weeks they just seem to disappear :yes

However, if that is not possible and you are willing to accept the slower weightlosss that dropping in and out of ketosis will bring you I am sure you will carry on losing. :hug
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

          yeah, i know

well, the cheat days are just what i need to do for right now to get me through this transition. i have tried many times, and failed, to change my way of eating by doing it all at once, and......i failed, cause i couldn't deal with the drastic change. i figure if i slowly phase out all the bad foods that i used to love, i will have a much more lasting change in WOE. i completely plan to do away with the cheat days once i am sure that i am ready to. its kinda like my safguard right now, cause i know how i have been in the past. i would rather start with baby steps with a couple cheat days and succeed in the long run, than go with this full steam like in the past and fail a couple weeks later
