  • Carb Addict - Need to Lose 169-179 pounds

    Hi ,

I am new to Atkins. I've never tried anything like this before. I am on day 2 today and already lost 4 pounds!!! Day 1 was tough though. The fatigue was too much for me. I barely had energy to prepare my meals. I'm looking forward to getting my energy back in a few days. I managed to stay at the 20g of carbs. Yeah for me! I usually don't make it past breakfast on any plan.

My carb eating had spiraled out of control over the past year. I just couldn't control myself. My husband and I were adding up the number of carbs we ate in a typical day and it ranged in the 200-300g range and more. We drank bottles of soda, and ate fast food and processed food everyday.

My cravings were fairly light yesterday. I did notice a bit of extra cravings as the day wore on. I had not gotten enough carbs in the morning and at lunch so I was cramming them into my dinner. I think that may have triggered a small craving for more carbs. Today I will focus on spreading my carbs out more evening throughout the day.

    My stats: 5'2" 294/290/115

I am a carb addict too lol.....anything with carbs is what I like. but Atkins is the only way I can lose weight. Cut the carbs and my water weight goes, keep the carbs away and the fat goes. So we have a choice, let our addiction lead the way or take control. Life is worth living and health cannot be bought. If we decide to cheat we just undo all the good. I accidentally ingested two sodas that were not diet "arrrrrgh" that was 90 carbs. So had to start induction all over again but its only been since the 8th of June and I have lost 6lbs.....yeahhhhhh........I am keeping on keepin on........

make sure you eat meat, fats & some vegetables with each meal - that will keep you full and will help with cravings. If you are hungry eat something, don't go by the time on the clock, go by your stomach. Drink plenty of pure water - ditch the soda's ... many times when you THINK you are hungry your body is actually needing water so drink at least 64 ounces daily.

Check the Century Club -- they may be able to offer more specialized help with your weight loss.

One of the best things you can do is purchase the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book (DANDR) – if you can’t find one locally www.half.com and www.Amazon.com have them pretty inexpensively.

Here are links that will help get you started. Make sure you are eating induction recipes only until you are ready to move onto OWL.
Exercise is not an option – it is mandatory ….. don’t say you can’t find a way and start today! Atkins bars and shakes are NOT acceptable during induction – they are made with non-induction ingredients and cause stalling in many people. Just remember - if it’s not on the acceptable food list – it doesn’t go in your mouth!

www.fitday.com get a free membership and track your daily food intake. Track NET CARBS daily … and also use the journal, for your daily moods, etc….it’s a great tool to help you.

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
      Filtered water
      Mineral water
      Spring water
      Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
      Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
      Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

      Good luck on your journey.
      Carole
