Introduce yourself
I am unsure how this works. I was pointed to this address so I guess this is where I put my introduction. I am overwieght by 100 pounds. I am 5 foot 2 inches tall.
I have recently been told I may have MS. I am getting a spinal fluid test to diagnose definitively. I have limited mobility because I have dizzy spells and shocks. I have lacunes on all 4 of my brain hemispheres. I am not sure what that means. I read somehwer Atkins may help people with MS so I am trying the diet. Plus I need to loose weight.
Currently I attend Weight Watchers (week three not much success yet) and I am just counting my points jusing and Atkins menu. I am on day 2 so I will see how it goes.

Re: Introduce yourself
AKA Red Riding Hood ~ Hello & Welcome To Atkins & The ADBB Forum!!!
I have Lupus which is in the same family as MS & being on the Atkins Program for the last 7 months has done a world of good for me. I have lost just about 50 pounds making my mobility a lot easier & was able to come off my HBP & Type II Diabetes meds back in Mid~May.
Please keep Us/Me posted with your MS Test results when you get them back!!!
You will have to make a choice between WW & Atkins as the two Programs are very different & will not be good for your metabolism /weight loss efforts to try to do them both at the same time!!!

Re: Introduce yourself
Hi and welcome -- check the acceptable foods list in the link below and follow that for your food choices.
We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condenced version of the book - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)(Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Even through the stickies are a good start they don’t detail the entire program, so that’s why we suggest you have the book to follow.
*take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of your 2 week induction.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily – www.fitday.com will help you keep track of this.
*Drink 64 ounces of pure water -nothing added daily (Legal water is considered Filtered water, Mineral water, Spring water and Tap water).
*Take your supplements
The Atkins shakes and bars (as well as other brand names of these products) are not legal on induction – there are non-induction ingredients in them and they are not listed on the acceptable food list. Also foods containing aspartame are not allowed as they have been found to slow weight loss in Dr. Atkins patients (and also on many people here on this site).
If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list it doesn’t belong in your mouth – no exceptions! Look at the ingredients list and check it against the acceptable food list -- just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Count "net carbs" not whole carbs (carb minus fiber = net carbs).
The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Re: Introduce yourself
Hi Red, it sounds like you have your share of burdens at the moment. Hopefully Atkins will relieve some of the difficulties. As Kayla says, though, you need to choose. WW is based on an entirely different principle and trying to adhere to both will mess up your metabolism. This is a high fat diet. Period. WW is a low fat program. You can't be successful trying to meet both goals. And you need sufficient calories to keep your metabolism up. Hopefully you will figure out which direction to take.

Re: Introduce yourself
Thank you for the responses! I will choose Atkins because I think after a month on WW I have only lost 3.8 pounds. Last week I gained 1.8. My sister in law, a nurse, says how I figured out the points (22-24) is too low (food wise-all points are not created equal I learned) and not enought veg. or protein. So I think as soon as I have used up my prepaid coupons I will pack WW in. Maybe I can sell them and start doing only Atkins sooner. Thanks! Red
