  • A BIG hello from the UK

Hello there. I have really enjoyed reading the posts and looking at the amazing before and after pictures! Im not new to Atkins....I did it back in the early 1970's when all I can remember living off was bacon, eggs and salted peanuts! I also remember the only sugar free fizzy drinks you could get here in the UK were Tab and Fresco.....a lot has changed since. I need to lose a few pounds and thought it would be nice to have some support and maybe help others at the same time. I have just ordered the 2002 book.

Warm welcome aboard and kudos to you for ordering the 2002 book. That's the one this board goes by so you'll have all the right knowledge.

Bacon and eggs are still good, but peanuts aren't for induction. Also stay away from fizzy drinks.
If you follow the plan to the letter, you'll be a success story, for sure!

    Happy losing!

Thanks for the welcome.....this is my day three (I created a ticker but it doesnt seem to show up although it shows in my cp). Have to admit I felt dreadful last night and through much of today. I had dreams about slugs and frogs and all things slimy and woke up with a banging headache. Its such a long time since I cut carbs so drastically, Im asuming Im having withdrawls? Im drinking plenty of water.....had about three pints through the night and have taken the recommended multivit etc.

      Ah the ticker has appeared!

Re: A BIG hello from the UK

          Hi and welcome back

What you are experiencing is what we call "induction flu" -- in a few day you will be through it and feeling wonderful. Don't forget to get the recommended amount of veggies in each day -- 2 cups loosly packed salad veggies (check the acceptable food list for what is considered salad veggies) and 1 cup off the "other" veggie list. The recommended amount of pure water (nothing added) daily is 64 ounces - to the water.

We have plenty of challenges on the board to help keep you motivated and accountable to yourself. There are exercise and non exercise challenges - most start the first of the month.

Weigh and measure yourself so you know where you are starting and also if you aren't loosing pounds you'll see you are still loosing inches! If you don't have much to loose it's best to do the 2 week induction and go on to OWL (ongoing weight loss) and start adding foods back as you go up the rungs.

At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. Check the stickies at the top of the induction forum to refresh your memory on the plan. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Definitely get the 2002 book, which is the advice this site follows. There are a lot of changes since the 70s version and the new version works just as well, teaches you better for long term maintenance and is healthier than the original.
