  • 150+ to get rid of..

Went grocery shopping today and am all ready to start tomorrow. I have a very long way to go and would love to meet others that also have more than 100lbs to lose. I have two small children and know this new WOE will be difficult with all the kid food floating around.... but a recent trip to the doc has driven home the fact that my weight is killing me.. literally. If I want to still be around for my kids in a few years, then I have to make this work, and it will work. I've been lurking around here for a few days now and the success stories are just amazing. One day I will post my own story among the others and in turn inspire someone else to make this journey, just as others on this site have done for me. So- if you want a shoulder to cry on or just someone to vent to during those lifeisn'tfairIwantayeastroll moments... then shoot me an e-mail and we can do our best to talk each other down.
So here I go... come along if you dare.

    Thanks for all the support,

Great that you could join us. It does take some planning and some will power to do this. For some of us Atkins is easier than other diets. That has been true for me. Cutting out empty carbs is a quite powerful way to get food issues under control.

Good luck. Hope you have a great day tomorrow. Make a point of checking in with us. It helps you keep on track.

Welcome to the Atkins Board Doordie.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and take a multi-vitamin. If you haven't already, read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR).

I live with 2 people who aren't on Atkins so I understand it can be tempting -- but after a few days you'll be fine with it. Many of the recipes I've made for my family and they have liked them -- give your kids the benefit of the doubt - they may like "mommies" food more than their own!

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out! Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - eat enough vegetables - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily.
Many of us use www.Fitday.com to track our food so we know what our carb totals are for the day. It's important you know what you are eating and how many carbs you are taking in each day.

Any and all questions can and will be answered - all you have to do is ask!! Good luck.

Re: 150+ to get rid of..

Hi and welcome to the board! I have about 115 left to lose so we can keep each other company. I also have kids at home--here's a tip--if there is a snack food that you LOVE, stop buying it, throw the rest away! I thought that I could be strong, but there are a few foods that I just couldn't say "no" to...so they are no longer in my house AT ALL. And my kids are fine without them! I still have plenty of kid-friendly stuff, just none that "I" love.

And now my boys are starting to request MY snacks. They love ham roll-ups with cream cheese and onions, crunchy broccoli with tangy mayo dressing & bacon bits, etc. Plus they love Linda's recipes that I use for family dinners. Favorites of my kids are Taco Bake and Hamburger Pie (I think it's really called White Castle something or other). They are learning to eat veggies (for the first time, I know, bad mom) and forgetting our past of having soda with dinner. I'm doing this for me, but the benefits are family-wide!!

If they want a really special treat, Dad takes them out for it, and I don't have to deal with leftovers hanging around. In fact, now I can go out for a treat with them and not have a problem wanting some. There's just something about having it in the house that has caused me problems in the past so we don't go there.

Stay close to this board and ask questions when you have them. This has been my lifeline. I still can't believe that the weight comes off and I'm NEVER hungry. Good luck!
